The many topics here noting Orcon's lack of customer service makes me realise that switching to another provider might be the best answer, but hopefully you guys can help as I think this might actually be an easy fix.

A while back our cabinet was upgraded to VDSL.  Information from anyone about this was vague at best.  I won't repeat the whole thing for the sake of brevity, but after a lot of hassles a Chorus technician turned up and it turned out our modem (Linksys WAG200G) was no longer compatible.  The technician said "Buy a new modem, and you'll need to get new settings for it from your ISP."

We bought a Linksys WAG160N and while it works the speed is a third of what we got before the cabinet upgrade (200Kb/s is about the max we get now).  Despite repeated attempts to get through to Orcon we simply cannot get an answer out of them about any new settings for the modem.

I've tried fiddling with a few different settings but I'm mostly fumbling around with no real idea.  I wouldn't have a clue and Orcon are at this point non-existent in the process.  If anyone has any ideas I'd be very grateful.

Hi and welcome to GZ, there are no changes to setting for ADSL, still VPI=0, VCI=100 Vc-Mux pppoA and UBR. Are you by any chance on a purple network connection or on a wholesale connection.

Can you please send me a PM/Email from this site with your account details. I am from Orcon.
I can have a look into it for you.

Thanks.  Not sure about the connection, as I don't have the info in front of me at the moment, but I think we're on the @Home Bronze plan.

Hi Blista, Paul is best to help you, but if you are on a unbundled connection (ie on Orcon gear) but in a cabinetised area then you are best to be moved to the cabinet.

I am sure Paul will sort it for you.

Cheers
Cyril

I have taken a look and updated the customer, looks like a plan change and a move to EUBA maybe in order.
This one isnt on an orcon unbundled exchange and is directly connected to the exchange so not a mid-span injection issue.

Just posting here so it doesnt look like its just being resolved in the silent void of private messages...

You probably don't want to hear it but regarding the Linksys WAG200G, I believe flashing to the last/latest firmware fixes the issue with the newer line cards Telecom Wholesale are using in the cabinet/exchange.

At least it did for my parents one.

Thanks for the tip. I've still got the WAG200G somewhere so I might try that this weekend. Could be handy as a backup if it works.
