Was having some issues with DNS server this morning, so thought I'd post some alternatives to use when the Orcon one's down.

Keep in mind that DNS will affect where data comes from, so perhaps it's best to keep this on as the secondary server. Orcon's main 121.98.0.1 and 121.98.0.2 are the recommended DNS servers. When all else fails, google's 8.8.8.8 although slow can be a pretty good last resort..

I obtained the addresses from GRC's excellent DNS Bench software.

Remember its always best to use your ISPs DNS servers so you are redirected to their local caches/CDN nodes. This will keep things running as fast as they can be for you e.g. if you use Google's DNS server you may get a Youtube stream from the US rather than the other side of town (which will be a lot slower).

Did the list above check them all for recursion support?

Many ISPs are stopping recursive DNS lookup support. Orcon were one of the first, actually, which is an annoyance by itself.

No signature to see here, move along...

Little FYI these are slingshots old recursive name servers these are now blocked intill recently for some odd reason we allowed anyone to do recursive lookups LOL finnally we locked them down.

However I have no had issues with slow resolution from googles recursive servers.

If you want to you can still use 60.234.1.1 and 60.234.2.2 at the moment as recursive.

I would however like to know what issue you had so i can investigate and make sure we dont have any major sort of problem.

I think around 5mins before I posted this, I couldn't resolve google.com however skype/msn/irc and those that are already connected continues to work fine. I tried using IE/Firefox/Opera and Chrome couldn't open any sites, so I figured must've been DNS issue. I updated my router's default secondary server to google's 8.8.8.8 then it all came back alive. By the time I thought of checking using nslookup it was already after this post, and 121.98.0.1 worked without a hitch!
