Ok up until last week my sync rate was on average 14.9Mbps down/ 795Kbps up then all of a sudden I kept getting drop outs on thursday and friday now im lucky to be getting 12Mbps/900kbps and that's after 20 or so reboots of the modem

I have seen a tent just down from the cabinet and Chorus guys working there but thats now gone I'm just wondering have they done something to upset the lines or done some witch craft in the cabinet

I've also notice that the noise and attenuation haven't changed at all but the sync rate has

this an Orcon bronze + Ph and 25GB addon account

What are you worried about? Many people would give their first child for 50% of the speed you get, Home line ADSL connections are best effort and not fixed speed

it's just funny that for the last 2 years the sync rate hadn't changed at all and then all of a sudden after chorus have done a little work near the cabinet it's now down 2.2Mbps actually make that 3.8Mbps now

and I couldn't give two hoots about the rest of the country not getting half what I do that isn't my problem nor does it have any relevance to what I was asking about

As johnr says, you should be lucky to be getting the speed that you get: no speeds are guaranteed and they tend to vary by time of day. I, for one, get 2.5Mbps (tops!) on a good day. Now, the recent degradation of service could be caused by more people being added to the line to the exchange/cabinet that you are on, causing more "noise" on the line and reducing the speed for everyone overall.

First, please read your PM.

Second, please post your line stats.

Third, perhaps you're now on a cabinet and Orcon should move you to another service. You should read this blog post to understand. This is not a Chorus problem, but an ISP problem.

You too could be the victim of ISPs not changing your plan when a cabinet is deployed. Start new topic for your specific case, posting line stats, region IN THE FIRST POST.

heres the line stats

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 11082 kbps 804 kbps
Line Attenuation 8 db 1 db
Noise Margin 11 db 12 db

as for Orcon moving me onto another service I do not think they can as they don't have their own gear in any exchange in Napier
and I have been on this same cabinet for over 2 years now with the same average sync speed ranging from 14.7Mbps to 15.2Mbps.... The cabinet is roughly 8~900m down the road

Any rain lately? Any new phone handset you plugged in lately? Monitored alarm in the house? Sky connected to phone line? Are filters correctly installed? No filter on DSL modem? Filter on other phones?

nothing at my end has changed

1 phone with 1 filter
1 netgear dg843 router/modem no filter latest firmware

no alarms or sky or anything else that taps into the phone line

as I've said the only thing that's happened that I know of was last week the modem was disconnecting 2 or 3 time a day for a couple of days (actually it was probably more than that but that's what I saw when I got home from work) whilst Chorus were doing some work and now slower sync same noise margin and same attenuation as before

oh and no rain of any consequence

Hi Aaron,

The speeds you are reporting are within specification for ADSL2, and I can't see many disconnections on your account at all. That said, if you do experience a significant drop in your speed or your notice your ADSL dropping frequently, give the team a call on 0800 13 14 15 so we can get a fault lodged for you.

Cheers,

Cam

Yeah thanks Cam I'll do that as I consider an 3.8Mbps drop a considerable loss

if you're going onto a new cabinet then speeds will be slower and disconnects more frequent for a couple of weeks prior to the migration.

when my connection migrated there was about 5 hours of downtime during the day on phone and dsl.

if you're in one of these areas that's likely to be the issue:

actually it looks like work has finished for the year.

I am having this same problem... for over a year in this apartment, I've always synched at 11mb/1mb, yesterday I was getting 3.5mb/700k and now I'm getting 5mb/750k... seems to change every time I reboot my Genius modem.

Nothing has changed on my end.

yeah well some drongo from Chorus came on monday and installed a master filter and still nothing has changed he even tried to blame the problem on my cordless ph which despite being told several times it was completely fine until they (Chorus) had done work on the lines up the road..... long story short stats are even worse now than before

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 9162 kbps 740 kbps
Line Attenuation 9 db 1.5 db
Noise Margin 14 db 16 db

I'll be ringing Orcon again and getting a tech out to fix it properly and hopefully they don't send the same drongo from the first time

My landline couldn't receive calls, and took Chorus to come twice to fix the issue. I need them back for the third time, as now my line's filled with static. I had to raise the noise margin to 15db to stay on line. Hope this is not going to be a trend for future Chorus work. Hopefully will be fixed come Monday!
