Now the Youtubes are faster than before.
See this screenshot:
Does anyone technical from Orcon in this forum know what was changed, and could maybe explain it?
I'm happy about the improvement, and I'm curious to know what happened.
Cheers!

sbiddle: Orcon quite possibly have a Google cache box now, I certainly haven't seen any reference in the past to them having one.
The boxes can make a huge difference since all traffic stays locally rather than originating in Aussie, on my TCL cable connection 1080p videos will buffer at ~15Mbps so there are never any issues watching HD content.

I had info from a tech at Orcon over a year ago explaining back then that they had a Google/Youtube cache. I can't find the reference to that in my old emails to copy/paste the quote though.
Also, today I watched a brand new 45 minute Youtube video, that has JUST been uploaded by the user, and it streamed in 720P without clipping. Nice one! That would never have been possible previously from where I live.
TimNZ: Unless my data usage stats are severly delayed, I think Youtube is zero rated on orcon.
I've been streaming over last few days at least 2 GB and no increase in data usage.
But interestingly it doesn't even appear in Uncharged column of data usage stats.
samgab:
Nope, I WISH that were the case! Almost all of my 40GB per month goes on Youtube usage...
