Pretty much sums it up - Econet still have no network gear installed and Tex is still complaining the regulatory environment is unfair. Tex is also trying to accquire 900MHz GSM spectrum from Vodafone (which is funny considering he never wanted to build a GSM network because it was old technology and only wanted 3GSM) and is moaning along the way about Vodafone somehow being a monopoly.

I guess we shouldn't expect anything else from the viggest vaporware company in NZ.

You have to wonder whats going on in their headspace. Things just dont seem to be stacking up for them, and every month they are not in the game is a month that their competitors have to build their empires, lower prices, increase service and generally do well.

Not only do they have to build a mobile network, Econet need to have sales & service channels set up and ready to go as soon as they want to publicly launch.

Seriously, if you were in the know about the industry at any level, would you go and work for them? I sure wouldnt. So who will?

How about the same people testing the network? :

These were to be "friends and family" of Econet and its 30 per cent owner, Maori spectrum trust Hautaki as well as students.

Im sure they will all take customer service to new levels...

Econet has a big uphill battle if they are still serious about breaking into the New Zealand market, and it shouldnt be blaming the government.

Why does Tex need 900MHz?? There is plenty of other spectrum he could use and doesn't he already have a chunk of 2100?

2. UMTS 1900
3. UMTS 1800
4. UMTS 1700/2100
5. UMTS 850
6. UMTS 800
7. UMTS 2600
8. UMTS 900
9. UMTS 1700

Why would you import $36M worth of network gear only to leave it sitting in a warehouse? Come on Tex spill the beans what is really going on? You can not blame Vodafone forever. I don't hear TCL complaining, they have got on with it and started building a mobile network in Tauranga.

As a tax payer I would like to know where my $5M has gone.

Maybe Tex could at least show us a piece of gear to prove it exists.. Remember he was so impatient to get the network up and running they had to airfreight it at great expense to NZ because they couldn't wait for the boat from China!

There are not many phones able to use all frequencies you listed. And 900MHz GSM is still the most used frequency in the world, right? This is a very cheap way to build and start a new network. Cheap and old. Like Econet.

There are not many phones able to use all frequencies you listed. And 900MHz GSM is still the most used frequency in the world, right? This is a very cheap way to build and start a new network. Cheap and old. Like Econet.

Prob was all about scamming the money off Hautaki Trust and was there any network equipment sounds like a poker bluff to force Vodafone hands.

Tex has to get some proof that he is genuine network up and working - still to me sounds like one of those emails from you know where that asks for send me the goods and I have $$ in a bank account.
