Hi all, on the unlimited plan here and noticing some pages are taking absolutely forever to load compared to a week or two ago. When pages are stuck loading for a while I've been into my modem's diagnostics, it says it's unable to connect to Slingshot's DNS servers during these times (which explains long page loads but fast downloads!)

Anyone else having similar issues?

Yes, I had to use a VPN to access Microsoft CES 2012 Keynote live stream.
Wouldn't work without it, was getting some object error.

I would suspect this is router issues. My advise check if a friend or someone has a spare router to test with make sure its a different model to the one you are useing.

This doesn't sound like a DNS issue - downloads also would have to resolve to a server using DNS, but would go fast after starting. The problem would be starting/

Please post your modem stats. Make sure you are using the correct DNS settings (or are they assigned automatically)?

Also you can us nslookup to test specific servers - for example run nslookup and enter "geekzone.co.nz" to resolve using the default DNS, then enter "geekzone.co.nz 8.8.8.8" to resolve using Google DNS, then "geekzone.co.nz 202.180.64.10" to resolve using the Slingshot DNS and see if there are problems.

Hmm, maybe it's not the DNS. I ran a benchmarking program which showed the SS DNS was giving the best lookup times and wasn't having connection issues. The problem seems to have gone away for the moment, I've got a spare modem lying around so next time we're having issues I'll swap it out. Current one is the standard Thompson wifi that Telecom gives out (hooked up to a separate wifi router), it auto configured its DNS servers to slingshot's and has a (miraculous) 40 days of uptime, 1.12/13.64 Mbits up/down, line attenuation 14.5/26, SN Margin 5.5/5.5, output power 12.5/0. I did a traceroute to google.com, 1ms to the wifi router then 50ms to the modem...perhaps that's the answer right there. Thanks for the replies!

I had the same problem between 11PM - 3AM tonight.  The router shows PPP connected and ISP authentication ok, however, it won't open any sites.  Windows Diagnostic was saying something like DNS server not working.  I kept trying and the problem went away at 3AM automaticly.

DNS was up an running though this time with several 1000 successful requests. DNS issues usually also reflect a drop in traffic however there also was no traffic change during this time. This looks like a individual issue no server side.

Even I have been exepriencing very slow browsing speeds since last week and sometimes pages fail to load and time out. Speedtest results are down to 1mbps from 15-19mbps until last week. Download speeds have gone down to 150-200KBps from 2.2MBps.

I've noticed these "DNS issues" too lately. Both us at home on Slingshot and also a client on CallPlus business gets random dropouts with "DNS server not responding" or similar message.

I was having the issues again this evening, swapped out the modem with a Linksys one, same problem. Either chrome reports a DNS lookup error or a page timeout for every web page I try to load within a window of a minute or so. Pops up a few times an hour, doesn't seem to matter whether I change the DNS server or not however. My flatmates are having the same issue.

Haven't had any DNS errors here, is it only affecting the unlimited plan?
