I was in the US and carelessly left my phone in a taxi from the airport to the hotel :-(  I paid cash for the cab so had no idea what cab company it was. I did the usual and tried calling the phone but nobody answered.

So in order to reduce the chance of somebody picking up the phone and racking up huge call costs in international roaming I called 2D to have them suspend/cancel the SIM. It turns out the overseas number for calling 2D is actually a cellular number. My friend has Google Voice on his cellphone and calls to NZ usually cost 2c/minute. But he discovered when he was about to make the call on my behalf, the call to the +6222xxxxxx number which is the international 2D customer number when calling from overseas was to be charged at 22c(US)/minute.

I don't know about VF or TNZ but I am sure where overseas numbers are probable reachable as a landline call.

Why do 2D does this? It's pretty unfriendly and it's hard to think it's a technical issue.

Just wondering.

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

I believe their number is +64 9 9197000, though I'm not sure if that's intended for customer support.
