Hi all,

I've been reviewing my daughters 2 degrees account and she intermittently has been getting a 1 cent GPRS charge.
31 Jan 2012 04:05:21 PM GPRS DAT 0.001 $ 0.01
It's never more than one cent (sometimes it's 0 cents, not often though), but for this month, there are 46 pages of them so it's making it hard for her to manage her prepaid credit.
The phone she has is a Telecom R6 http://telecom.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/11260
I've been through and through the settings disabling anything data/internet related, (She only needs it for texts or for me or her mum to ring her on), but still they persist.
That one today was when she was checking the text messages from 2 degrees (as I was topping up her phone).

For the life of me I must have skipped over/missed something.
Any help anyone can provide would be appriciated. (I'll have the phone with me tomorrow), or can we get 2 degrees to disable data use totally on that phone number.

rugrat: Swype down from top of screen.

You'll see some symbols. 4th one across before the last one is probably pink. Press it once so it goes grey.

It looks like a retangale with radio waves coming out top right. Once it's greyed out mobile data is disabled on phone.

I'm assuming all android phones have same interface, as that's how done on mine.

Whats their problem got to do with an android phone? Don't they an Telecom(ZTE) R6 phone.

Lots of phones with custom firmware do things like this - and because telco's customise things for their own network they have the ability to zero rate data.

I don't know what it is that the R6 is doing, but it could entirely be possible that there is nothing you can do to change it's behaviour other than disabling data entirely.

There was a famous case here on Geekzone (JohnR will remember it, he was involved in finding it out), of someone using a Chinese-made mobile. He was adamant no access to the Internet was performed, every setting off.

After a few weeks of traces, JohnR detected the handset was connecting to China Mobile (the original operator where the phone was bought) searching for updates. This was something that was beyond user-control.

As sbiddle said, who knows what the R6 is doing? It could be checking for updates, etc - in which case Telecom (the original operator) could easily zero rate the connection, and 2degrees can't.

Thanks Steve and Mauricio,
I suppose it comes down to option number 2 (which I'm not too worried about, she only really needs it for texts and incoming calls).
Getting 2 Degrees to disable data on this pre-paid account.
I thought I was going nuts, at least now there is an explaination I can understand.
