According to Chorus here: http://www.chorus.co.nz/sat   I'm in a VDSL2 zone, green. If I purchase a VDSL2 modem and connect it, will I automatically get higher speeds?

I believe I'm on an ADSL2 modem now. My current plan is Advanced High-Speed, according to when I sign into Slingshot.

You will need a prequalification done to ensure you can get VDSL2, and will also require a master filter to be installed.

Nope. I don't know if slingshot offer VDSL yet, but it's usually an extra $50 a month ontop of normal ADSL2 charges.

Correct, Slingshot do not provide VDSL at this stage.

Ahh I assumed the Slingshot had announced some VDSL2 plans - rereading it the OP just wanted to swap out a modem and get faster speeds.

VDSL Plans "might" be available soon however unable to confirm when this will happen or anything at all.

Quite a lot of ISP's are thinking the work to update their billing systems, staff training, capacity to offer VDSL2 isn't worthwhile with UFB progressing.

If you want VDSL2 now Snap are offering it, plans are their current DSL plans + $50. There are also various business oriented ISP's offering it eg: Unleash.

Exactly however were it will be useful is places like Auckland CBD were you cant get UFB as cabling up an apartment building is going to be difficult.

I think VDSL is a good solution for those in the suburbs wanting faster speeds especially upload before UFB arrives. Been living in 4 different homes around Howick in the past 2 years and all have been within 300m of roadside cabinets.

There is going to be a market for creative solutions for this. I'm in the middle of a deployment now delivering 100Mbps symmetical connections to an apartment complex over coax. Their internet connections aren't that fast at present (20/20 and 50/20) but can be upgraded to 100Mbps symmetical instantly if the backhaul was sufficiant to support it, and more importantly the demand was there.

I want VDSL upload combined with the slingshot flatrate plan, and VDSL upload combined with the slingshot dont meter backflip deal. Prefer the first tho ;)

Sure, only way you'd get that was if it was $250-$300 a month..
