Orcon has announced a second call centre.

Customer numbers have skyrocketed since we launched Genius last year, and while we have been hiring new call centre staff as quickly as we can, we need even more capacity.

So, we have engaged NZ technology company Datacom to assist us, scale up and open another call centre for us. This call centre will be based in the Philippines and will answer non-technical and general queries (such as accounts questions for example).

This enables the team based at our Northcote office to focus on technical queries and specialise in solving problems.

While you have to applaud their commitment to bringing on more capacity, it does seem a bit risky considering other companies have publicly lauded bringing their call centres back to NZ from out souring countries due to less than desirable service levels.

Hmmm, has me a little concerned. Hopefully it improves waiting times but hopefully not at the expense of communication issues.

Dear Orcon

Please talk to TelstraClear, Vodafone or Telecom about overseas call centres.  If they can't pull it off successfully, I don't hold much hope for you.  Good luck anyway.

Kind regards
Nate.

A little offensive really that we have massively high unemployment, and a state owned enterprise is opening a new call centre over in the Philippines (when we have foreign owned telcos that tout having their call centre in New Zealand as their major selling point!). So much for social responsibility.

might want to update your website Orcon when you open that call centre

http://www.orcon.net.nz/no-brainer/knowUs

What makes Orcon so different?

Great value: Phone & Broadband from $69.95/month.
Better broadband: Awarded fastest internet provider by NZ Herald/Epitiro broadband survey.
No fixed term contracts: Service that will make you want to stay.
NZ call centre.

Come to think of it, they should also change the 'no fixed term contracts' part too, since Genius has a contract option, and so did the 'best deal ever' from last year.
