I am unable to use the 2degrees website from my Android HTC DesireS using 3 different browsers.

In all cases the menu bar on the left side of my "Your 2Degrees" page is truncated and it is not possible to select the options.

It is therefore not possible to top up or buy data packs online.

Is this something peculiar to my phone, HTC phones or a general Android problem?

The Desire uses the standard browser afaik (don't think HTC messed with it), it'll be a rendering issue. Try DolphinHD and put it into "Desktop" mode.

Edit: Works fine in the Android 4.0.3 browser, the 2.3.x browser has serious rendering issues with a lot of sites. The inability to scroll down certain menus is something I came across a lot.

I had good success with Opera if you haven't already tried it.

Depending on your perspective it's either an Android problem or a 2degrees website problem.

You can use this widget to access most functions of your 2degrees account: https://market.android.com/details?id=nz.org.winters.android.nzmobileaccountwidget

Already tried DolphinHD in that mode thanks!
No luck.
OperaMini behaves the same as does the default browser.

I use the widget mentioned above, but you cannot buy data packs on that without the paid for version.
I was unable to get some online as I could not get to the page last week when travelling (so had to find out how to do it using SMS)

Try the proper version of Opera, not the "mini" one.

Pretty sure this widget lets you do datapacks:

But don't quote me on that...

Seems to be a problem with the 2deg site. Been like that for ages now.
You can use txt for buying/stopping packs,
But checking the details of when packs expire etc you have to do from the website which doesn't work with the phones they sell!

Try this bookmarklet.

javascript:(function(){jQuery("#wrapper").css({position:"relative",margin:0,left:0})})();

  1. Bookmark this/any page.
  2. Copy the above.
  3. Edit the bookmark you just made with an appropriate name and replace the location with the above text you just copied.
  4. On every page of Your 2degrees, launch the bookmarklet. It should fix it.
It's been a long standing issue with how the Your 2degrees site was styled, ever since it was launched.

Great reply manhinli

Works a treat. Thanks

I hope some of the 2degrees support guys who look at these pages pick up that their website is broken.

Ive had the same issue with Nokia and android on their site, all sorts of different browsers.
As provider of mobile services, youd think that would perhaps be one of their priorities to have a cross platform accessible site :)

The desktop version of opera doesn't work properly with the 2D website, so I would be surprised if the mobile version did.
That is one of hte problems with so many browsers and platforms, they have to be tested with each website.

.......or you make the code simpler.
Theres not too many browsers these days that wont display the simple {table} tags (Anyone remember those? :--)

... or if they use:
body {width: 1000px; margin: 0 auto;}
#wrapper {margin: 0; left: 0; position: relative;}
to override the current CSS styles, it should fix it (and basic testing shows that it works for all common browsers.) Wish there was some Greasemonkey for mobile browsers to make it work in the mean time.

As a side note, I have no idea why they used left margin of -500px on top of a 50% float from the left (which causes problems on displays with a small width, such as mobiles.)

If people can't use my bookmarklet, there is also another way in Opera Mini which I remember using: linearise the page and you should see the sidebar links appear.

I tried to check my usage via safari on my iPhone today... The dropdown's didn't work and Opera failed too.
