Need I say much more?

Crap. Yeah I'm on unlimted, but the fact I can upload faster than I can download/stream is terrible.

Trying to stream from mediaworks (The Dotcom interview) and low and behold. 80kb a second. Far from being able to stream it at all.

What on earth happened to you over the last 2-3 weeks?

I'm now on the hunt for a new ISP. Get sick of being told "Its cause you're on Unlimited". If that was teh case, that would mean that my 250GB plan should have been faster when I first had it, but that wasnt the case. Back then Unlimited was faster by at least 4x ( actually getting line speed).

Now, even doing speed tests to local (NZ) servers, they sometimes FAIL.

wtf.

BTW, took be a couple of seconds to upload these "hq" images.

Took me about 2-3 seconds to load the front page of Trademe.

Same here, trying to patch SC2 at 40KB/s is not fun

I've experienced the exact same issue as Aaroona.
My speeds were perfectly great about a week ago, maxing out my line to NZ content, as it should. But the last few days, I've not been able to get anything to go above 200KB/s, national or international.

Also I've noticed that when I restart my router, the DSL carrier is up, and connects fine, but the PPP takes about 5-10 minutes to connect and get an ip and dns settings, meaning no internet for 5-10 minutes after the router has been reset.

Don't even get me started on International...

I'm getting maybe... 1/15th of what I used to. ALL THE TIME.

That's TV3's problem, that interview is being linked from all over the world.

Hmm here's my speed test just taken 7.02PM.

I have the feeling I might be one of the lucky Slingshot customers that seems to keep a steady speed, although since that outage last week its been a bit flaky some nights with browsing.

I also noticed that PPP was taking a while to come up. Maybe they are still having issues but seems to have improved now...

Time to find a new industry!

Seriously unhappy still.

They may have replaced the hardware, but you try and even LOAD IMDB and you'll see what I mean.

I get what you mean, took me a good 10 seconds to get the page fully loaded (all images) which in 2012, isn't really acceptable IMO.

I know exactly what the problem is, over done traffic management. Nothing about hardware or any silly stuff. Everything overseas is limited to 100KB/s, Everything local isn't, only there's not a lot of locally hosted content.

From my perspective, Slingshot seem to have recently changed their traffic management rules. About 3 months ago, all international traffic was limited to about 150-250KBs PER CONNECTION, meaning, that with an accelerator, I could connect to the server 20 times, and max out my line (2MB/s) to pretty much any international server.

Now they have changed that, and limited ALL the international connections to conform to the 100KBs limit, so 'accelerating' the download does nothing beneficial in terms of speed.

Seriously can't wait for NZ's second fibre pipe to be available. Bring on some bloody competition, and maybe we will be paying similar rates as other international people (Pay for BANDWIDTH, not DATA!)

Will T.

Right, so I got a call from Slingshot last night offering me 2 options;

1. a static IP to see if that would fix the issue (quick fix/mask turn around time of 1 day) or;
2. logging a fault ticket (along with everyone elses, they said its a known issue) (with a turn around of normally 5 days to diagnose)

So I went with the first option to see if that would fix it, however it doesnt seem to have this morning.

I'm going to ring Slingshot and log a fault.

Downloading from Slingshots own FTP site is abysmal. Used to get full speed.

I get full speed to Sydney, but national is all over the show. Youtube, well, I'm lucky to stream 480p still...

/le sigh, still on hold after 20-30 minutes of hold -_-

This is the performance I'm getting too (on their new unlimited plan).  I get approx 100KB/s downloading the same ISO - so its not just you (if that helps).  Speedtest on their site and I get line speed.  Speedtest.net and its all over the show - even for Auckland servers.  I get line speed to the Internode test but all others approx 3-4Mb/s

Billing cycle is up on the 27th so giving them till around the 20th to resolve or shifting plans and/or providers.

Im almost at he same conclusion.

I have a bill currently sitting in my inbox saying 'due by 18th'. But at this rate...
Opps internets so slow I cant load the online payment form :) I am exploring an alternative option though.

that aside; it look 22.1 seconds to load the home page of Vodafone.

Welcome to dial up guys! :)

Waiting to hear back from the guy at slingshot... I get the feeling I won't be hearing from him again tbh. "I'll go talk to my manager again and I'll send out an email if need be with the details of logging a fault call (we need some tests to be run)"

Being that I've had a couple of staff members at slingshot offer to help me in the last couple of days, I took the guy on the end of the phone at his word, but I begining to thing that was a mistake.

Back to the drawing board I believe...
