I've just hopped over from Orcon to Slingshot and ran a speedtest just now and this is what I got.

http://www.geekzone.co.nz/ForumEdits.asp?topicid=98557&replyid=589509

What I find even weirder is that my IP address seems to tell me I'm located on a remote island off the northern tip of the South Island when I'm living smack bang in the middle of Auckland's CBD. Is this normal?

Geo location IP addresses is often very coarse, and also ive seen bugs in the speedtest maps that place cities offshore. Wouldnt worry about the speedtest location thing.

What is your ADSL sync rate, attenuation, type of modem, distance from cabinet/exchange and are you on a ULL connection or wholesale? You'll also need to briefly describe your wiring setup, ie master filter, plug in filters, how many jackpoints? Do you have an alarm and if so is it monitored?

Overload I know, but without all of this information there it's hard to really offer any help. As for Slingshot speeds in general the last 20 of so threads in this forum are all pretty much discussing the same thing.

Whoa how do I find out all that stuff? I only have the ADSL wireless router wired through a splitter which also has a line to a phone, and that's all I've got in the apartment.

EDIT: Typo

Ok some digging around and I found a few numbers.

Line Attenuation: 2.5 db (down) 4.0 db (up)
SNR Margin: 22.5 db (down) 13 db (up)
Power: 11.5 dbm (down) 12 dbm (up)

Are these numbers any help?

data rate: 8128 kbps (down) 832 kbps (up)
max rate: 12320 kbps (down) 948 kbps (up)

Hey nuke737

I would say this is a profile issue as it seem you are very close to the exchange and have a fairly high SNR.

If you can PM me your account details ill have a look further for you.

As sbiddle mentioned we have been having some issues with speeds lately but this may or may not be related, to hard to tell without getting into the account and line details from my end.

Cheers,
Joe.
