Hi all, i'm writing this from Uni internet so unfortunately I won't be able to respond to any questions if they appear so I will try write out as much as I can and look at anything when i'm at Uni again.

My flat signed up to Slingshot's $90 Naked Broadband Unlimted plan and we received a text message yesterday around 3pm saying it had been activated. Straight away plugged in the modem however it couldn't pick up the DSL at all. Plugged in two other modems and they had the same issue (no modem issue is my point).

Rang up the help desk, they said to give it a few hours to maybe sort itself out. Tried again dismorning and have left the modem on and still no DSL connection has been made. Have tried using 3 different modem/routers (Linksys WAG200G, Linksys WAG160N and the standard Telecom Thompson one) in two different sockets and through different filters (so I could make sure the problem wasn't on my end.)

I have put the correct username and password into each modem's settings.

Anyway the problem I have now is Slignshot have advised me to lodge a fault however my flatmate, who is busy with work all weekend, is the account holder and he needs to do it. Unfortunately he's not back until Monday so i'm seeing if there's any work around I can do on here. (Uni starts on Monday so having Internet would be very handy ASAP for signing up to Tutorials, etc).

Anyway, as I said, I will try monitor this when ever I get a chance to get onto the net.

Cheers,
Tom

Is a DSL light coming on at all on your modem, or just no PPP?

If you're getting no DSL sync coming up you're clearly not plugged into the line that has had the DSL service provisioned. You have either provided incorrect information about the premises or a mistake has been made hooking it up. Either way it's the downside of not opting for a full install where the Chorus tech will visit to ensure that things are all up and working and the internet configured.

With naked DSL you have no phone to know whether your line has been connected or not. There isn't much more you can do but wait for Slingshot to go through the fault process with Chorus, which if it's found to be an issue at your home will cost you money to have the wiring fixed.

Without being rude, are you in a 'student flat'? When I was doing Chorus work all the time I hated this time of the year as I spent most of my time under flats where students have kicked jacks off walls and the wiring was just in bad condition.
Assuming slingshot have actually put the line on first, could just be a wiring fault. But like sbiddle says, quite hard to diagnose without having dial tone to listen for. If you are able to, pop your head under the house (or up in the ceiling) and see if you can see where the wires go. Ideally the cable goes directly from the jackpoint to the ETP.
My bet would be the line isnt even getting to your house as they wont have picked an intact connection and just put out a new connection. Slingshot are great at doing this lol.

No DSL light at all on either of the 3 modems.

Yes we're a student flat. The jack points are all fine, the previous tennants were using it fine a week ago and the jack points themselves are in very tidy condition and based on the previous tennants being able to access the internet (along with a phone line) atleast we know that the wiring works.

We're the second/top story of the building so can't get underneath it nor really into the roof as the ceiling is too high and we have no ladder, but I highly doubt the wiring is the issue from what i've said above.

Very good point, Filter will not allow DSL on this type of connection. Must be modem only direct in JP.

Thanks for the reply, this could be the problem!
I am attempting now to plug the modem straight into the JP.
Will let you know how it goes!

Okay so I have tried the three different modems in three different jack points using a cable that plugs into the back of the modem and straight into the jack point. Still no DSL light has came on :(. Would resetting the modem help at all? Or giving it like 20 minutes to collaborate itself?
