Hi there, appear to have an issue since midday yesterday retrieving mail form my Orcan email account. I keep getting the error message POP server mail.orcon.net.nz has rejected the password *******.

I am no longer a Orcon customer but have kept using this old email address for convenience as they advised on their web site they don't delete your email account should you switch to another ISP. I have also sent an email to my Orcon account and it has not been bounced back so it would appear the address is still active.

Is this a problem their end, anyone else experiencing the same issue? Has something changed settings wise that I need to update? Any ideas???

Ta for any pointers, Shomenno

I have the same problem.

I 'am' an orcon customer, and since yesterday I can't access my orcon email from my iPhone.

I can however access my email through the web interface.

After some tinkering I think it's an SSL problem. Maybe, sorry not 'geeky' enough to confirm.

Have you tried using the web mail interface?

.

Just done a trawl around the web, back a long way.

This 'issue' has appeared on and off for orcon since at least 2005.

Seems to be 'resolved' mysteriously each time.

So maybe just wait a while if you can?

My wife was getting it from home yesterday afternoon but I tried from work (via Telecom ADSL) and it worked fine.. This seems to happen every week..

I woke up to the same issue this morning.
My webmail and PC's POP3 mail work fine.
My iPhone mail does not. I tried both SSL and POP3, also access via both wifi and via 3G XT, but nothing works.

So, took a deep breath and logged a fault with Orcon. This (as, I'm afraid, is my usual experience) was verrrry painful, having to listen to infuriating music-on-hold for 42 minutes. (the type of music does absolutely nothing to calm down your rising frustration levels the longer you are on-hold, either! I bet the help-desk call abandonment rate is sky high).

Anyway, the Help desk says there have been a number of users logging this issue this morning, and a notice will appear on the network status page when they finally get around to fixing it. Frown

From Orcon's Network Status page,

Network status updates10/03/12 11:17 am Customers may have problems authenticating with POP serverFailed disk has been repaired / replaced, however, the cluster will take 24 to 48 hours to re-index which may mean that customers currently indexed to the old cluster will not be able to authenticate with POP server 2 until indexing is complete.

Duration: 09-March-2012 to 11-March-2012

The timing is interesting. This notice wasn't there when I checked before I rang the help desk, but is timestamped before I logged my call!

Have had the exact same issue for a week. Not to mention my 50 disconnections a day and 4.5 m/b speeds down from 15m/b.

Well the fix has worked.

I'm back up and working again, across all devices.

Thanks to the folks at orcon who actually do the yards to fix this stuff, and thanks to those with the patience to log the fault.
