I am looking at the 2Degrees Datastick, once I use the data that comes with it I will dump that SIM and use the sim from my ipad (ie swap them over from time to time) you can get a micro to full sim adapter. I know that.

BUt what I want to know is. If I travel overseas can I take the datastick with me and use another networks sim in there or is it locked to 2degrees?

So I should also be able to use a Telecom/Vodafone sim if I am out of the 2degrees umbrella?

You won't be able to use Telecom since they use different bands.

This.

Long answer:
Telecom T-stick with vodafone/2degrees: 3G in cities, 2G everywhere else
2Degrees/Vodafone USB with Telecom/skinny: 3G in _some_ city centres, no signal everywhere else.

To elaborate on the latter, Auckland and Wellington CBDs for example it may operate in, but DO NOT rely on this for coverage beyond these kind of areas.

Do not even rely on this for service, period. You will be frustrated using a Telecom XT SIM on a 2degrees or Vodafone device. If you try, don't blame Telecom - the devices are not in the same band, so it's not the operator's fault.

Which is why you would pick up a device like the Netcomm Myzone which accepts all SIM cards on all frequencies and happy accepts XT, Vodafone and 2D as well as all the Australian operators.

Even so, you have to make sure you get the proper one, as I see there are three models, and one of them is tri-band only, so wouldn't work across all operators here.
