Hi there, I don't think this happens every day, however it does happen quite often.

On some evenings, our intenet is basically horrible. Webpages take forever to load up, video streaming doesn't work at all. Yet in the day, our internet works flawlessy.

When I ping google.com, my pings are unusually high. I was going to address the issue sooner, however sometimes with a quick modem reset the problem usually resolves itself. However, sometimes it is back to it's old self shortly.

I reinstalled my OS, thinking that would help however it hasn't.

Would you think that my modem is on the way out, as it was only a cheap modem, as I have a second modem lying around somewhere, and I could give that a try.

Here is the image of my ping.

Seems like both of us both has the same slingshot server as our first hop.

Modem is a D-Link DSL-2730B

Looks like exchange or handover contention. What plan are you on and in what area?

I've just noticed YouTube has gotten a lot worse in terms of streaming. Everything else including browsing works just fine though.

Hi Guys

Invercargill, Hamilton, Levin, Timaru & Remuera should be much better now.

About Youtube a second Goggle cluster is going in next week sometime waiting for Google to make it live they take about a week to do this, When this happens it will double the capacity of our Google cluster.

Thanks

Can someone from slingshot confirm what would cause having insanely high latency on first hop out of home network?

Typically saturation of the Chorus handover link.

Yup, without knowing any specifics of the SS google setup, the google cluster will hold cached copies of the popular youtube videos and other files. This is where your computer will go when you watch youtube, so SS putting in a bigger cluster/another cluster means yes IT WILL BE FASTER :)
