Just a heads up guys, for a long time Orcon's had this policy of overage charges that's pro rata, so if you used 500MB and the rate is $2/GB you will only be charged with $1. I have just received my bill for this month and this is no longer the case, since I have used 0.12GB overage and was charged a full GB's worth.

I'm 2.58GB over and charged for 3GB. So they appear to be rounding it up. It's not that significant for me, but I can imagine that it is a bit tougher for those on small plans.

Given that you pay for 'blocks' I would have thought that rounding up is the correct way for it to be billed. Any other way would have been a mistake or goodwill from Orcon.

Most plans are charged at $2 per GB.

The only other thing I found was that if you sign up to a plan part way through Orcon's billing month then the pre-arranged data-plan is pro-rated, so I don't see it applying to overage:

Hi there,

This has been the case for quite a while now. Data overage is charged at $2.00 per gigabyte regardless of whether you use that full gigabyte or not.

I believe that there were some customers in the past who were being charged for overage on a pro rata basis due to a billing error but this was fixed months ago.

When I was with Xnet it was down to the cent, but I don't know whether that's still the case.

You are right, I haven't went over my limit for almost 6 months or so.

I had a look through my bills, and it appears that Orcon charged overage pro rata since late 2008 till now. So it came as bit of a surprise that's all, some communication would be nice. Since I used to tell my mates the good things I personally think Orcon's doing, and this was one of the "features" I'd be telling them.

That's the spirit! Or another tiny splinter in the back of the head reminding you that data ain't free in kiwiland... I find the fact that I am aware of it kinda sad haha..
