After order my HVR-2200 in March it is finally here.
However I cannot get it to display any TV channels on Gb-PVR, Media Portal, DVBviewer, or power cinema.

When ever I try and view TV on any progam the entire computer freezes and needs a reboot!

The card seems to be installed all ok and DVBviewer will scan and find 14 channels ok.

The only hint I have is that before DVBviewer crashes it displays an error message

"Cannot render the media file output pin error 0x80040200. An invalid media type was specified"

I am runing Vista 32 SP1 with a GT8600 and dual core so the machine spec should be all fine.
Any suggestions on where to start looking as I am a newbie to this and it is driving me crazy.

Do you have powerdvd installed?
also have the latest gfx drivers?

Change the renderer to VMR9, make sure you have the right codecs installed.

Just recieved my HVR 2200 and am having the same problem.

I have only used mediaportal and powercinema.

Still investigating.

mentalinc: Do you have powerdvd installed? ...

Installing PowerCinema 5.1 provides the necessary H.264 codec. Do not need PowerDVD as well.

I have tried the power cinema codecs and VMR9 as well as the other settings - I now avoid the error message, but the PC still freezes as just before or after the picture appears on DVBviewer.

If I go towards power DVD is version 7 or 8 the go?

I will keep investigating but if anyone has other suggestions feel free. Will keep you up dated on my progress as I seem not to be the only one with this issue.

Hi there,

The crash is caused by a codec issue. I recorded some tv from freeview HD using my HVR 2200 & MediaPortal - it recorded without crashing.

When I went back to watch this recording - it crashed

I rebooted and changed the codec that it uses for decoding to another cyberlink decoder installed (PCM or something).

This time it played back the tv but crashed when it finished playing it back. The TV it played back was not viewable (lot of green lines) but I believe this to be a reception issue as I am only using an indoor aerial at the moment.

I have just installed and tried the coreavc codec. With this codec installed I was able to watch back my recording without crashing. Still have a reception issue but this is my aerial and nothing to do with the codecs. Although it might be possible the cyberlink codecs are crashing because the received signal is so bad.

Would still like to know why cyberlink is crashing. Other people seem to be running it fine. Might be an issue with the audio decoding being done on the "default device" and not on the cyberlink codec or the crappy reception. Something to try tomorrow I think.

What version of PowerCinema are you using? ie. did it come with the HVR2200 (in which case, since you just got it, it should be the latest & not need patching), or is it an older version you acquired by some other means.

If the latter, it may need patching to 4410 & for audio etc (see various threads in this forum). Also, I assume you have made the various ini mods needed to get HW acceleration to work with PowerCinema (see sticky thread re PC & HW acceleration).

I am running v5.1 of powercinema which came with my card. I applied an audio patch that I found on the web that is supposed to fix an audio issue in NZ. The patch applied successfully so I guess it was needed.

I have not done all the ini mods to work with mediaportal. I will do so tonight and see if it makes a difference. Thanks for the suggestion.

Some details of PC versions shipped / shipping to NZ and patches required are given here.

If your disk is version "CD-PCM-5.1-HD-AAC-V1.1" the audio patch should not have been needed (& perhaps best not applied???).

The .ini mods I referred to are for PowerCinema (on Vista) only, not MP.

I too would like to know which codec option is best with HVR 22000 and VISTA 64

Dedicated HTPC
- Windows Vista 64bit SP1
- Mediaportal
- 780G MB w. onboard H264 decoding
- 2GB Ram
- Audioout via onboard SPDIF optica
- 1080P Samsung 46" LCD
- 5.1" Samsung HT Receiver with DTS/Dolby Digital 5.1 etc

I just reformatted my whole computer last night and was planning to install codecs tonight.

I downloaded the latest HVR2200 drivers from the UK website (version 7.2.9.26105)

Which codecs do people think are the best.

1. Powercinema - CD-PCM-5.1-HD-AAC-V1.1
2. Powerdvd 7

Just to update you - Making the .ini changes to power cinema did not help me.
I have the new 1.1 disk so I did not apply any patches, and used a clean install. I have noticed that you can apply a patch if you have updated prior or not before so I don't think it checks the version when patching.

Infact my machine froze (required a reboot) 74% through the channel scan.

Have you tried the HVR2200 in MediaPortal with TVServer or just in standalone MediaPortal?

I have just received my HVR-2200 and popped it into my machine with MP TV Server and it picked it up straight away and i'm ready to go. I'm not able to check what codecs i'm using right now but i don't think i ever installed the cyberlink ones. Channel changes aren't exactly snappy, but good enough.

I got my HVR2200 late last week also. I'm just using the PowerCinema software it came with for now because I wasn't sure how well it would go. My Prime reception is not that great and I'm using onboard video (nvidia 6150).

Anyway it goes ok for live TV.

AMD 3800 dual core with 2 gig ram running XP. TV3 has 80% CPU both cores, TV1 or TV2 are more like 60% CPU usage. I know that an 8500GT, 8600GT or 9600GT is required, but is there any advantage spending the extra for a 9600GT over an 8500GT. It's intended for home theatre only, not gaming. I've actually got Vista32 not being used at present which was intended for this pc as well. Thoughts.

If you are using it for home theatre only then you are just wasting money getting a 9600GT. The 8600GT is the sweet spot although the 8500GT will do just fine as well, just will not play games.
Either of those cards will play any HD stuff you can throw at them just fine.
