Hey folks

I recently bought some Philips NICAM broadcast kit off eBay to have a look at - there is a detailed write-up here:

Does anyone have any contacts in TVNZ/Three? I'd be interested to know if it was this same Philips gear that generated our NICAM signals. It was available from 1988 and as far as I can tell there wasn't a lot else on the market around this time...

you would need to get hold of Kordia which used to run all that (as BCL). or find some of the older techs.

I was doing a job at a company in Penrose I think and they had they old transmitters there, they did not know what they were and what the parts were, I saw the NICAM encoders but I could not remember the brand to save myself.

You might like to try JDA, they used to look after the TV3 TV4 transmitters in the day.

The question is finally answered. I found the person who decommissioned it all.

From 1989 to about 1995 the equipment I have shown (Philips PM5687) is indeed what was used in NZ.

Installations after that used a more modern modulator - Barco NE-728.

As a side note the vision/monaural modulator used in NZ was the Philips PM5580.
