Hey,

Was helping tune my inlaws new Panasonic TV, model TH-55LX900Z (55" 4K premium LED)

Their old TV wasn't a smart tv so they had separate freeview box; the new TV has Satellite coax option built in. They don't have UHF aerial, only satellite dish, so connected that direct to TV.

Selecting auto-tune then choosing free channels was all good, it found all the channels necessary, HOWEVER the channels aren't numerically sync'd properly, for example channel 1 on the TV was Firstlight (instead of TV1), channel 2 I think was Prime (instead of TV2) etc, I'm guessing the autotune just matched numbers sequentially with the first frequency it found as it went through it's scan.

Anyone know if there is an easy way of updating this / automatically getting correct channel assignments? (without resorting to manually tuning for each channel?)

I couldn't find an option to do this in the menus.

Is it possible for them to get a UHF antenna fitted and receive a terrestrial signal?
It'll be HD instead of SD, and hopefully the channels will map properly.
I know it's not directly answering your question sorry.

Anything Freeview approved should have LCN ( logical channel numbering) on by default, and I’m not even sure you would find it in the menu , but if it is there make sure it’s turned on.

And if you cant tell it to reorder - My encounter with Panasonic is they rely on 'favorites'

When you go channel up, look at the status bar right side. Probably say 'all channels'. Normally changed by the colour of the button (blue?)

Going into favourite editor you can move and hide junk ones in favourite1. And then switch to that while the staus bar is up.

But a manual rescan or channel update usually screws them.

Just thought of something else.

From memory, some TVs had two tuning options on satellite, one, I think Freeview and one Optus D1, you may have selected the wrong one.

That’s incorrect, should be Freeview, or whatever the Panasonic wording is.

I've tuned an older Panasonic TV to satellite Freeview before and the channels had to be manually set to order. Most TVs don't support satellite so I can't complain too much.

As he says the picture quality on satellite Freeview is poor, lower than DVD quality, which is a waste of a semi high-end 55" TV.

If they're able to install a UHF aerial to get FreeviewHD the picture quality will be much better. If that is not possible try the Freeview Streaming TV app which has better picture quality than satellite Freeview. But it isn't very user-friendly. Hardwire the internet connection if you can as it doesn't behave gracefully when connectivity is down.

Prime+1/SkyOpen+1 isn't currently available on FreeviewHD so it has to be accessed via the Streaming TV app (channel 21) or satellite.

If they must use satellite, disable "Overscan" in the Picture menu and it'll improve resolution by 3%. It should be disabled for FreeviewHD too but must be done separately for SD and HD channels.

Before getting them to install a UHF antenna like others have suggested, I'd suggest putting their address in the freeview coverage checker

Good idea but the website's address lookup function has stopped working?

Unless the houses are really scattered a walk around the block should show if the neighbours are using UHF aerials.
