I am about to purchase a freeview decoder any requests on which would be most reliable ?

and i would like to know if i can use the one decoder and get all the freeview channels onto 3 tvs ?

You can use with all three tv's but you will have to watch the same channel on all three. Also another question is what area do you live in?
Try putting your address into http://www.freeviewnz.tv/all_about_freeview/coverage and telling us what the results are for Freeview|HD and Freeview Sattilite?

I live in wanganui and i just used that freeview checker and freeviewHD come back as unlikely but freeview satellite was very likely

Ideally you will want a Freeview decoder for each TV because you will only be able to watch the same channel on all three TV's without individual decoders.

You've just mentioned the check on the site says Freeview|HD coverage is unlikely - this means you won't be able to use your aerial but will need a satellite dish.

From what I've heard however large areas of Wanganui can get Freeview|HD with a suitable high gain aerial (it's highly unlikely your existing aerial would be of any use). Your best bet would be to contact a local aerial installer and ask them.

You will still only be able to watch the same channel on all 3 TV's with a single STB if you go for the Freeview|HD or Freeview Satellite options.

The checker is understandably cautious in the predictions that it makes, so even if it says unlikely you might be OK. The checker says that Freeview|HD is unlikely at my address as well, but I get quite a good Freeview |HD signal.

whether you can get Freeview|HD in Wanganui would depend on where you live, if you live on the flat, unlikely. However, if you live somehwere like St Johns Hill, you might be OK with a high gain antenna.

if you already have a Sky dish on your house, you should be able to do it yourself. All you need is a splitter like this (or similar 3 or 4 way splitter, just search splitter on DSE). Make sure one box is plugged into the power pass port, and away you go. Make sure all set top boxes are powered off at the all before plugging in all the boxes, as there is a chance you'll zap your box if you don't. You will also need some cables too, but they are quite easy to make if you're good with that sort of thing. I know you can also buy them as well.

If you want to save a bit of money, go to an electrical wholesaler like Stewarts, as they're a bit cheaper than Dick Smith is.

Yes i do currently have a sky dish on the roof currently connected to sky in the lounge

i have a splitter that goes into rf out on the sky decoder and split the signal down to the bedrooms

i also have existing cables from my old house ?

how would i hook up a freeview decoder from how it is set up now ?

Look at the splitter and cables, if they are all RG6 cables and rated out to 2050MHz or more then you can use them.

If the ends have an F plug on them at the splitter you are already most of the way there, sky installers ususally use satillite splitters when doing the RF splits since they have them with them.

Take dish to the input of the splitter, take one output to your sky box. Other outputs already go to the bedrooms.

Change the plug in the bedrooms to an F connector, plug into the freeview box.

If you still want the RF output from the sky box sent thru as well its more complex however.
