Hi

I just bought my first Freeview decoder last week, went for the sommet digital DVB T receiver SHDNZ3 from DSE for $150

I got it home to my apartment complex and all very easy to plug into UHF aerial and autoscan channels etc

I flashed it using the latest firmware on http://www.sommetdigital.co.nz/hd_digital_tv_receiver_SHDNZ3.htm

Now I'm finding channels are continuously stuttering a lot of the time, audio/video out of sync, for 10 secs of video I might only see 2 secs of it

I'm also finding the unit locks up, still responding to some remote commands but not changing/channel/audio and nothing coming out of the display

Pulling the power out the back magically makes it unlock and work for a bit

Did I get a dud? Should I go swap it for a new one at DSE?

Should I have not flashed it with the latest firmware from their site and just leave it with what it shipped with?

I was going to suggest you check your signal strength and quality but in view of your comments about lack of response to the remote it sounds like you have a dud.
Take it back and ask them to check it instore. This will confirm one way or the other. They usually have a STB setup and working in most stores I've been in.

Did you try this/did it work ok prior to you upgrading the firmware?

What are your signal and quality strengths/values?

Yeah, as above though, if it's not going well take it back quick as Dick Smith have a 2 week return policy which should be very easy to return.

The only thing not to do is to tell them you updated the firmware just in case they refuse to take it back.
