thanks for that. I was wondering why with 1 TB it was showing same as Dishtv T1050 with 500GB. When the dishtv comes back I will give it to my brother (unlucky him). The magictv mtv3700td seems to be much higher quality unit and the interface is a lot more polished and the remote has better layout. The dishtv remote has fast forward buttons at the bottom and the pause play and stop at the middle. I prefer them grouped together

I had bought the MTV3700 so i can use epg to series record and easy to set a recording a day ahead. Really nice unit but cant copy to usb unencrypted to keep a recording I like in case hard drive fails. Then I remembered my Strong SRT 7000 has AV in. I really like the Strong apart from no series record and sometimes forget to set it to record an episode. SO I thought about connecting the MTV3700 to AV in on strong and recording what it was showing. And it works. It was outputting video on HDMI and at the same time outputted video on the component out. The quality is acceptable even though not at 1080i resolution. Slow way of saving but at least it works. I now have backups of programs I want to keep. The strong allows me to copy the file to usb if I want to do that as well

But if you are only keeping a copy for your own use there shouldn't be a problem, the MTV3700 allows you to copy to an external HDD, and as long as you play it back on the MTV3700 it will play encrypted or not, or is it that it's not much use if the MTV3700 is superseded you will have lost all your recordings.

yes and i suppose it will still work if the hard drive was replaced as they do fail. But it wont work if I had to have the 3700 replaced. I am going on my experiences with dishtv units that failed and replaced under warranty. I dont know long term reliability of the 3700 yet.

Only HD channel recordings are encrypted. Non-HD recordings are not encrypted.

yeah, i have decided to just keep the strong srt7000 rather than replace it with the 3600. so I will just have the mtv3700 and the strong. I really like the 3700. should have got it first than persevering with the dishtv t1050

I picked up one of these from JBHiFi and have been impressed with it however just yesterday I can no longer see the show information. Instead of the name displaying for the programme I am watching it has all the info such as HD, time, duration but just a full stop where the name should be?

When something is recorded it displays as a full stop in the recorded list. I have emailed magic tv but if someone knows what to do that would be helpful. I have upgraded to 5.10 to see if that fixed it but no joy.

I think the 5.10 (beta?) firmware allows you to "stream" encrypted content from one 3700 to another 3700.
I don't know if this also allows playback after transfer (via USB).

I'm betting it is a transmission issue, or Freeview has broken the EPG data (from the MTV's point of view anyway).

And I thought it was just Mt Campbell that had transmission problems, it seems they still have some major issues with freeview, the other day live TV was going black screen and freezing, but all my friends were having the same problems.

If anyone is keen i am considering a swap of my MTV3600 for an MTV3700 , the advantage i have with the 3600 is the awesome software to ffd through ads like they don't exist , however i like the 3700's low power usage and it is the last house hold item on my list .

As an open access broadcast platform we do not control the channels or content broadcast on Freeview (including EPG). For channel or content queries, please contact the individual broadcasters.

So by that definition it was all the individual broadcasters who had an issue...somehow I dont think so? Either way its working now but I would love to know where the fault originated.
