I have just changed my 2014 LG to Australian broadcast location and turned HBB TV on  , re tuned  and reset GMT time and now have Freeview plus working fine , haven't noticed any bugs with it considering the way I have had to do this ,

I changed my LG 2014 WebOS TV to Australian location and was able to turn on HBB but when I re tuned no channels were found. Can you step me through what you did to get it working?
You need to  change from 7MHZ to 8MHZ and do a manual tune,  I'm not sure what frequency you need to input as this will differ for each region depending on which transmitter you get your signal from, you can probably Google that or there's likely someone here who Knows . I don't think you can do an auto search because it defaults to the Australian 7MHZ .

yep, that's what I had to do.  auto-tune didn't work.

had to google the frequencies  (using the 'channel' default settings didn't work either, had to actually change the frequencies manually and alter to 8MHz.

here is a list
http://www.freeviewshop.co.nz/digital-terrestrial-i-8.html

(Warning: It may be out of date.   I seem to remember the other day fiddling around with other freqs I found through google before I got it working properly)
I'll check to see what frequencies worked for me and post them here - but they will only be relevant for Auckland area.

LGSAM: The reason I ask is because my LG does not appear on the list of supported devices but I know if I set it to Australian broadcast service I will be able to turn on HBB and then re-tune to our free-view  Frequency . But I have no idea if this will work .

AFAIK the main difference between AU and NZ broadcasts is the DVB-T bandwidth. AU has 7 MHz channels; NZ has 8 MHz channels. The rest - DVB-T, EIT and MHEG 5 for EPG, and now HbbTV - is much of a muchness. If I owned your TV and FreeviewPlus support is not enabled in the near future then I'd start making a lot of noise on Facebook and Twitter, email and call support channels etc., because the only reason not to enable support would seem to be money.

yep, same.

set location to australia,  then had to fart around a bit manually re-tuning channels.  But it seemed to pick them up just fine and freeviewplus seems to work 'ok'.

The menu seems quite laggy, but watching catchup content works fine, for the couple of things I tried
(of course, the resolution is absolutely terrible when I compare to Lightbox and Netflix)

oh, and the 'guide' button no longer works properly on my remote.  I have to use the red button to get the freeivewplus epg (this is bound to confuse the heck out of my wife)
Hi , what do you get when pushing the guide button , I get a different style of guide which isn't too bad but only shows two programs ahead for most channels .

E3xtc:
timbosan: Has anyone tried getting FreeviewPlus on a Panasonic Plasma.  Apparently they are capable of hbbtv (see this page) in the European market.  Any idea how this would be activated in NZ?

I have a 65VT60

Would love to know this also...however as mentioned elsewhere it is likely to be a cost issue (from Panasonic's perspective), in that they wouldn't be interested in getting Freeview compliance for older models (even though technically they support the hbbtv standard being currently used). I own 2 Panasonic Freeview devices (VT50 and PVR), but am not holding out any hope for them to start working with it. Would be nice if they did though.

I imagine they wouldn't need to get certification to just enable (or include) HbbTV via a firmware update. But I wouldn't hold much hope that Panasonic would roll out any firmware updates for other-that-the-latest NZ TVs (except for maybe worldwide general updates) even if the devices are capable of supporting HbbTV.

Got it working on 29 and 33, nothing on 45. No Prime or ChoiceTV.

the channel numbers didn't work for me.  I had to actually change the frequency

e.g. (I'm making these numbers up because I can't remember the actual ones) changing the channel to 28 on my LG set the freq to something like 529500,  but the actual frequency I needed was something like 530000  (and I also needed to change the Bandwidth to 8MHz instead of the default 7.)

The frequencies for each region are here:
http://www.rsm.govt.nz/online-services-resources/pdf-and-documents-library/publications-and-guides/broadcasting/digital-television-channel-usage/table-of-digital-television-channel-useage

Use the middle frequency for each range. For example, for "510 - 518" you would put in 514 MHz (514000 kHz).

Are you in Auckland?
If not, I suspect that is why. The HbbTV guide must use EIT EPG data (as opposed to the MHEG 5 EPG data used by the standard guide). Full EIT data for all channels is available from all of the transmitters. However, data for the TVNZ and MediaWorks non-Auckland variants (Waikato/Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch) only covers the current and next programs. In other words, you should be sweet if you're in Auckland; outside Auckland, the HbbTV guide app would need to be coded/configured to look at the Auckland guide data.

If I push  the red button the Freeview Plus guide comes up and is fully populated , but if I push the normal guide button on the remote I get the different looking guide with only 2 programs ahead . So it seems putting the Tv in  Australian mode must disable the MHEG guide and replace it with the EIT EPG and like you say because I'm in WGTN I wont get all data , I cant see any way around this not that it effects me too much as the plus guide works well. Thanks for the explanation .

Thanks for the frequency list, that got me sorted, can access all channels now. Am in Auckland and get the full EPG.
This is on a 2014 LG that is not on the list of working TV's.
It will be interesting to hear LG's reasons why it cant work on my model :-)

I don't think LG will bother to give a response , I have been emailing and ringing them on this for a month or so now and heard nothing . It may help if others do the same . My set was still selling for $4500 3 months ago so you would not have considered it obsolete .

So I take it my Panasonic 65VT30 doesn't support Hbbtv, can't find any reference to it anywhere.  Also doesn't list a country selection when you factory reset it.
If only Tivo supported it.. sigh..

In what follows, is a comment about Freeview+. It was at the end of the conversation. I was on the phone to Panasonic NZ today about my DMR-PWT530 (twin digital tuner with an internal Hard Drive). It had a firmware update on the 02/06/2015, to v1.37 and I have found that it won't show Al Jazeera, it just shows "no service" even though the Signal Strength & Quality show maximum. Al Jazeera has been viewed through the '530' for many many months prior to the update.

A Samsung TV also had a firmware update in June & now also will not show Al Jazeera. I have two other Panasonic TVs and a Magic TV 3600 Set-top box & they still show Al Jazeera. None of those have had a firmware update. I think something in the two firmware updates are causing the problem.

Samsung will look into it, so they say, after my phone call to them.

The Panasonic rep is going to try out a '530' next week and if it does not show Al Jazeera, then it will be passed to the Techs. I asked him to make sure it had the same firmware version as mine has.

Now to the Freeview+
I asked Panasonic if my '530' will get an "update" to allow it to have the +. His answer was "No, sorry, the Freeview+ needs a different tuner than what is in my unit".

Ha, I got a similar answer when I asked why the Australian version of the E6 series TV can record to USB HDD from the EPG, yet the NZ version can only do one-touch-record (i.e. no scheduling).
