TVNZ does require registration and login , I will try Maori Tv tonight . Everything seems to work fine apart from the poor picture quality of on demand content .

Hey all,
Of all the set top boxes in the market at the moment, are any of them decent and usable by someone elderly? looking at replacing a TIVO unit thats having issues (2nd unit even) with something with freeview plus and recording capability.

If the twin tuner pvr and plus hits the market based around the UK Humax T2100 we could have a very good option for young and old :) it has 500gb built in ,twin tuners to record plus playback on top and all the on demand. Cheaper than a whole new tv just for the sake of a tuner or source

My parents who don't have a smart TV are looking at getting a blu-ray player to add smart functionality - i.e. netflix. Are there any blu-ray players that might get the freeview plus upgrade?

the new Panasonic DMR-PWT550GZ HDD Recorder and Blu-ray player will be getting the Freeview Plus feature. Panasonic's web page say it is due mid Sep. RRP is $599, but JB Hi Fi currently have them at $420. Not sure how long.

I have a Panny BWT720, hardly used. Have to buy another. Or how does that compare to buying the Dish HDD recorder at $499 when its out soon?
Will the UI be different, better? Any upsides/downsides with a Dish FV+ HSS Recorder?

UI is important, as is firmware upgrades for fixes and upgrades

FYI 2015 Sony Android TV's now have Freeview plus, was activated a few days ago and works OK if not slow...

Does not require firmware update

Dish T2200 is $449 inc GST freight fee last i saw.

The panasonic is pretty cool apart from its one fall down , you cant watch a recording while recording two fresh shows, the processor is not grunty enough , i was so close to getting one :(

ui is a good feature but i would need two 550's as i wont tolerate recording without playback , UI is not a deal breaker, if i have to work harder or think more to make it happen that is better than a total failure, i am often 5-6 weeks behind most series and never watch live .

UI wise I like Sky, it's big, simple and easy and quick. I'm, not bothered with fluff, gawdy colourways and klunky means to change channels or navigate, as I feel the Panny UI is like. PITB

nothing beats the sky box if you have the cash , its all down hill from that Except that sky sometimes cocks up the EPG and series record goes on holiday, that is a unique sky issue esp kids programs, i recall the howls quite vividly ;)

it totally depends if you are recording on the same MUX e.g. tv 3 R plus tv4 R + tvnz 1 R records and watch tv2 is possible i believe
