Just want to know if there are any tricks to the software or not.

dvbviewer really needs to be purchased to get audio. The 'patch' is only avaliable in the members section. I like dvbviewer in its simplicity.

Im not getting any picture even, only getting sound on the sports extra channel and thats showing as mpeg when I edit the channel not aac.

Picked the cyberlink h264 decoder in the direct x page - no idea if its working or not on here since it is a pretty average system - is that all there is to it to getting picture normally?

Fossie: News news news!
tv 1 and tv 2 are now live in 720p!  Showing without a trace and desperate right now.

Yet these are the same pricks who  say that they won't be doing any HD until July / August this year . If they can do it now why not when DTT is released goes live in March / april??

Part of the problem is at present they appear to be broadcasting upscaled SD material. TVNZ want to make sure they have sufficient stocks of HD sourced material for prime time, as well as the ability to broadcast selected live events.

Once this is in place they can then start advertising it as a HD service.

Are there any DTT settop boxes being sold in NZ yet? I don't particularly want to build and setup a HTPC.
I'd preferably would want a DTT box with Dual tuners and PVR capability.  The Topfield TF7100HDPVRt looks ideal :)

For those who has both PowerDVD 7 and DVBViewer installed on their operating system, I have written up a guide for it.

There are no official boxes available yet. I've also yet to see any unofficial ones but it wouldn't surprise me if there were some floating around.

Just be aware that you will need MHEG5 support to get the EPG via DVB-T whereas with DVB-S you could get away with not having an MHEG5 compatible decoder. This will probably limit the number of 3rd party boxes around in the short term.

I've read the Aussie ones won't work but can work if modified by the NZ dist Hooktech.  Wonder if this a software load or just settings?

An australian stb WILL NOT WORK in New Zealand. They need a large amount of grunt to do h.264. And they wouldn't support our audio either.

Hmm, did all that and no images with 3.9.0.1 of dvbviewer.

I then installed an older dvbviewer (3.9.0.0) - and that works (well if you call a virtual slideshow working, but I expected that) - but it has no option for the AAC decoder.

tv3 looks like trash, the overlay is too wide for my old video card so the right 1/4 of the picture is purple and green noise, and it seems there is a vertical offset on the colour to a degree but at leat the card I got is locking and working and will be ok when I get a gruntier machine and HD video card.

Is there an alternate source of EPG for dvbviewer since kordia are being stink and not offering the proper DVB one? Seems to me that its a reasonable piece of software so will probarbly get a licence for it.

You must have "DVBViewer 3.9.2.0" to gain access to the AAC decoder option, google is your friend. Its a good cheap application worth the liscense fee

I don't know if they are really doing anything wrong. They made it quite clear from the start that MHEG5 would be used for all EPG data. This isn't a proprietory standard so it's just to up developers to include it in their products.

I believe the only reason that the DVB-S service transmits the full EPG on the DVB stream is so it could be used with existing Sky boxes without requiring major firmware upgrades. With the spat between TVNZ, Freeview and Sky continuing however we're not likely to see Sky using the Freeview MUX's any time in the near future!

Is DVBViewer + Powerdvd (codec i assume?) the only way currently to pick up DTT test channels? Do mediacentre programs etc not work? Will they in the future?
