I know, I was probably thinking more of those that have watched some form of the sport elsewhere rather than those sports not really been shown elsewhere such as AFL.

As an aside what is your opinion of the viability of a sports only channel using advertising as their source of income to purchase sports? No doubt they will have to have advertising logos on the screen as well as breaks for adverts. However with regards to football I imagine a lot of people who are watching the football will be watching after the fact so will remove adverts.

Go to the Skyless EPL topic and all you'll read is a chorus of moans from people who think it's too much to have to figure out how to get streaming video working on their TVs.

To me this shows that it's just impossible to please everyone, and there's no point trying. I hope as startup businesses they just concentrate on keeping their heads above water instead of trying to service every request.

Spyware: A lot of the AFL coverage looked like a low bitrate D1-CIF resolution stream that was then overscanned making the result unwatchable. Makes Sky's low bitrate delights look nice which isn't good. I won't be watching.

To not derail this thread too much, that was simply because we've swapped one monopoly for another but lost the easy ability to watch on a TV with the convenience of a high bit rate and remote, but now with the hassle of attaching more devices.  For example my boss is a big united fan but has no way of watching this on his tv as he has a desktop tv in one room and sky in another but no portable device.

Anyway back on topic, I do fear about free to air advert based tv.  The advent of the PVR has made it very hard for the advertisers to get their messages across and I do hope for the sake of free sports that this channel makes enough money... I'd love to see it grab F1 from Sky :-)

The program that's on now must have encoder problems also. Looks like D1-CIF resolution at best to me. Certainly not broadcast quality. Kordia's bitrate output is over 3 Mbps but what you are feeding in is truly vulgar.
