ronw: Well I have never seen a basic STB with an ethernet port. I have here a DSE STB which is the Zinwell
rebranded  and no etherenet port. I also have a homecast 7000 and no port. I agree that some PVR's have
ethernet ports but the Freeview certification does not require one. Its a pity they did not include this in the specs but they did not so all those that purchased the early STB's that were certified will not have an ethernet port.
Its a bit sad that the original certification did not also include a pay card provision as well but I guess they
were scared of people latching onto that and accusing them of not being freeview.

Zinwell's have an ethernet port, and my understanding is an ethernet port is part of the spec - I've never seen an STB that doesn't have one.

The Zinwell ZMT620 / DSE branded unit has an ethernet port.

With respect to getting that internet connection to the ethernet port, is there any sort of wireless solution when the (wireless) modem/router is in another room and cable is not possible?

I'm supposed to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder for me to find one now.

A wireless bridge will let you hook ethernet devices up to a wireless network. Cheapest options are about $30

OK, would this be suitable?

Yip should work fine. Most access points also support a client/bridge mode as well, there is no shortage of hardware to do what you want. That unit is only G however, I don't know whether you want something that does N.

I found another, D-Link Wireless N 150 ridge, but its $66.

I have an old D-Link Wireless ADSL router, Model DSL-g640T, I dont suppose that can be used to do the same job?

Jaxson: Will this lot work with existing freeview hardware?

My last reply seems to have vanished so will try again
Most of the Freeview STB's that I have seen do not have internet access. The lastest ones like PVR's do but if you bought your STB when Freeview started you will be upset if you cannot take advantage of a new service without upgrading the STB. I dont think the Zinwell or Hills STB's have Internet

The Warehouse Freeview approved Transonic DVB-T receivers do NOT have an ethernet port and they have only come out in the last couple of months.

There's a "sneak peak" article on NBR but it's behind the paywall. The only accessible part for me is the associated picture: http://www.nbr.co.nz/sites/default/files/imagecache/article_image_full/freeview2_0.JPG

A router is no good.

TP-Link make AP's for ~$40

The NBR article is no longer paywalled.

The idea of a high definition guide is appealing, the current MHEG one with its giant text is a waste of space on anything bigger than a 12" tv.

I disagree richms, most of my customers love it - big and easy to read.

Currently (big text) everyone can read it, if it were made smaller not everyone would be able to read it.

What I am confused is that will this Inew feature be on both DVB-S AND DVB-T ?

The screenshot of the EPG doesn't make it look tht much better. It's more aesthetically pleasing, but no more functional.

It also runs very hot and has poor quality capacitors.
~Meaning the ethernet port, and the rest of the unit, won't work for long....
