grant_k:  I am on the most basic Sky plan there is, costing $46 per month and I get TV1/2/3 all in HD.

Wasn't there a $26 or so basic plan a while back for those who could not receive TV1 etc, which essentially mimmicked freeview.  If that was still going, you'd probably get the channels in HD still, and minus the basic sky channel offerings, which you may or may not actually want.

Unfortunately no; a friend of mine has investigated this already and there are no HD channels provided.  Here is what Sky says about it:

https://skytv.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/478/kw/free%20to%20air%20channels%20only/session/L3RpbWUvMTM0MTE5MDU0Ni9zaWQvLXZ6Qk80Kms%3D

Even though the cost is only $18.70 per month, I can't see why anybody would want to pay for this as it simply duplicates Freeview.  I guess one reason could be if you wanted MySky @ $15 extra per month instead of buying your own PVR.  Even there, the total of $33.70 would quickly add up to the point where you would have been better to stump up the $$$ for your own PVR.

Yeah I was thinking along the lines of if you had the Sky basic $45 package only to gain access to TV1 - 3 in HD. Obviously it's not substitute if you genuinely want some of the other channels in the Sky basic package.

boys: i have liked watching Penn & Teller: Fool Us

Yeah, me too. Aside from that, the only other program I watched a handful of times was Scotland In Winter. I'm glad to hear they're expanding.

The rights holder has put the Scotland Revealed episodes on Youtube.

Tuned my ultraplus this morning and now have Choice TV.  Was listed as SVC_1943  so renamed it to Choice. Havent edited positions so instead of channel 12, I have it as 16.

The Choice TV website (http://www.choicetv.co.nz/tune-in) states:
** Freeview Satellite update - 5pm, 5/7/12 **
Choice TV is now free to air on Digital Satellite across New Zealand. Technical satellite information is as follows:

Satellite: Optus D1 @ 160°E
Frequency: 12456.2 MHz / Transponder 12456
Symbol rate: 22500 (22.5 Msym's)
HorizontalFEC: 3/4Video Pid: 0514
Audio Pid: 0652
PCR: 0514

Viewers can scan their decoders and tune in right now. When you scan an 'unofficial' DVB decoder, Choice TV might not come up as Channel 12 (it might even come up on two different numbers) so you'll need to manually sort the order of which channel you want on what number. You could even put Choice TV as Channel 1 if you wanted!

Official Freeview decoders (the ones with the Freeview NZ logo on) will automatically tune themselves in from July 10th once the EPG update has been completed by Freeview. My non-official-freeview STB (Topfield 6000PVR) has not yet been able to "discover" it.

Am I missing something?

Have you done a scan based on those parameters?
If so, it should be found, but keep in mind that as of last night anyway, the service was not tagged as "ChoiceTV" or anything similar, but something much more cryptic, like "DVB-S 12456 0x795", as I recall. If you are looking for "ChoiceTV", you just may not be recognising it.
