http://www.throng.co.nz/2012/06/choice-tv-rolling-out-on-further-platforms/

The basics:

From today - Choice TV on TelstraClear Cable - Channel 78

From "first week in July" - Choice TV joins Freeview Satellite - Channel 12 (as per UHF Freeview)

From 1 September - Choice TV joins Sky TV's basic package - Channel 78.

Good news!

Good news I guess, but I've not looked at their content line-up.
What is "Channel 12" on DVB-S? What is the transponder frequency, symbol rate, polarisation, etc.
I imagine it's too much to hope that it will be in HD via DVB-S.

Considering it's not HD on UHF and Freeview Satellite doesn't transmit HD it would certainly be too much to hope for.

If asked, I expect 'Freeview' would say that transmission resolution is a matter for the individual broadcaster, but I'm not holding my breath even so.

Yep, definitely resume normal breathing. It is not broadcast in HD currently and on satellite there is no capability to broadcast in hd.

paulmilbank: ...on satellite there is no capability to broadcast in hd.

This is simply not correct.  How do you think Sky do it?

1. The quality of sky's HD broadcast is questionable.

2. I think the poster was probably referring to the fact that there is no capability for a Freeview Satellite HD broadcast presently.

Choice TV never was in HD

The Choice TV Channel will be on the Kordia TP, Trying to talk with them to establish a Test Channel transmission in which many can retune their boxes to,

No doubt they will be broadcasting promo loops before 2nd July just like TV ONE Plus 1 is now

Great news. I'm already watching a number of programs on ChoiceTV and enjoying their comedy and drama offerings.

By buying dedicated satellite space and running a dvb-s2 broadcast with hd mpeg4 avc compression.  But to go to that requires that every set top box is upgraded to support mpeg 4 hardware decoding so that the satellite bandwidth is not used up.

Freeview does not have the desire, money or capability to set up HD channels over satellite. Freeview have repeatedly said this.

For that matter, even though Sky seem to have the money, they are not throwing it at dedicated satellite space and upgrades to set top boxes to support dvb-s2 transmissions on every channel. It is the only way they should really go to keep their bandwidth requirements down, but they instead turn down the bitrate ever more on their crap mpeg 2 channels and pack more channels on. Why do you think only expensive sky plans and set top boxes have hd? Besides increased programming costs, hardware for hd broadcast is expensive.

Yeah, me too. Aside from that, the only other program I watched a handful of times was Scotland In Winter. I'm glad to hear they're expanding.

Actually, I am on the most basic Sky plan there is, costing $46 per month and I get TV1/2/3 all in HD.

You don't even need a MySky to get these channels in HD.  Some third-party decoders will do it if you have the right smart card.
