I have a firmware for the JC Matthews PVR. File is titled DVR320T_APP_1.2.9.zim from May ish 2011.
I don't know if anything newer than that came out before this product was dumped in NZ. Given the recent comments though, I don't think your problems are firmware related, especially if they were working fine up until recently. The execption being if capacitors are starting to play up in these devices, but that hasn't been common, yet, and they don have a fan from memory so not likely.
Best bet is to hound freeview and JC Matthew. As I pointed out to freeview, this product has their logo all over it, so it's in their own best interest to make sure it works properly.
Another issue has cropped up for me (perhaps in the last week?), it appears that anything recorded on TV3 I am unable to do anything but play it once it's finished recording. This means: -no "chase play" -no fast forwarding -no elapsed time
Quite annoying, but luckily I don't record much on TV3 so that's why I'm not sure how long it's been happening. As far as I can tell, all the other channels are sweet, including TV3+1. Anyone else having the same problem?
Yes, I have the exact same issue with my unit - in addition to the other problems noted by members above. I've also noted that if I set the unit to record TV1 or TV3 now, it typically records the +1 versions. These problems, as well as multiple screen freezes during play back is rendering this machine almost useless at the moment.
I have the same issue. Seems to have started around the time they put the shopping channel etc. However have noticed that it seems to respond bit better when in a SD channel, much worse of HD channels. The channel ticker that runs on the front display jumps/freezes when it is having this issue.
My first thought was it was overheating or something & thus CPU's running slow, but couldn't see anything obvious.
I have tried resetting the unit to default and also formatting the HD, neither improved it.
Good thing I checked here as my next plan was to try putting a new HD thinking that was buggered.
Funnily enough I have had similar issues with my JCMatthew unit however now The front display reads Boot... and just stays there have powered it off and left it off overnight but when it powers up it stays at BOOT and nothing happens ... very frustrating...
Similar symptoms here with the JCMatthew 320T. It ran great for about two years -- now almost unusable due to very slow response to commands. I have emailed with JCMatthew in NZ, who were quite helpful. They sent me firmware 1.3.0, which has made no difference. The way around the problem for now: Box records programmes OK (but scheduling anything new is nigh on impossible). To play back: disconnect aerial before switching on. Then performance is very good. The big disadvantage right now is I cannot record while playing back. The problem has to be with the current broadcast signal. Too many boxes are having the same symptoms at once for it to be a component failure.
FWIW, here is the email from JCMatthew: Hello there,
Please find the attached files for the latest firmware and instruction. If you have a difficulty to upgrade the firmware due to the slow response of the menu selection, please unplug the aerial then plug it back after upgrade.
Recently we experienced few issues, and this latest firmware might not solve the problems.
l slow response when using the menu selection
l cannot fast forward the TV3 record program
l the picture will be pixelated when fast forward the program which is recorded after 28, September
l on some occasions unit froze might occur
We have contacted freeview and the manufacturer, now we can not do much about those issues until received any solutions from them.
I've also been encountering problems with the EPG, the remote control response and recording programmes with freezing and pixelation issues. These problems occurred only after the MediaWorks changes.
This is the latest response from Simon at the JC Matthew Service Centre:
Freeview has sent the Transport Stream to the manufacturer. The manufacturer analyzed the TS and found the data carrying in the TS is more than what they designed initially. Now the manufacturer is trying to figure out the solutions. To proof that the problems are caused by the freeview signal you may unplug the aerial and you will see the differences.
We will keep you up to date with any solutions received.
But is it still within the spec? If so then JCMatthew didn't do the job right in the first place. If not then Freeview are in the wrong. In the meantime, annoying!
Jaxson: Is this to do with the 3 main channels now all being in 1080i with Dolby surround tracks?
The time frames don't line up though as this all happened quite a while ago.
Yeah, I don't think so. It's been working fine for ages. It's more likely they've changed something recently, specifically the MediaWorks mux I guess since it is more affected than other channels but not sure what.
Dunno whether a FW upgrade will mhelp it coz my one now constantly shows BOOT even after powering off overnight and when repowering having only the power cable connected...
