driller2000: couple of comments:

1. the zip doesn't appear to include the rtf file which has the instructions in it (the exe does)
2. i faffed around with 2 sticks and 6 or so attempts at flashing the 1050 - but all failed as the usb stick was not detected by the 1050. i then reformated the stick to fat32 (they were ntfs) - and re-extracted the fw file - and hey presto it worked.

hope the above helps someone

and to the vendors - you may wish to address these matters.............

Its in the Specs that NTFS is not supported

lol - are suggesting i actually rtfm?  :) - one line in the fw upgrade notes to ensure usb stick is formatee fat32 would be all that's needed - esp for people like me who have long ago lost the manual...

You can down load the manual  its on there web site.

For PVR Functionality the USB hard drive will need to be formatted as FAT32. Most new external drives come pre-formatted as NTFS so will need to be reformatted as FAT32.

Okay got the t1050 out of closet and installed the update.  Recorded a SD and confirmed 576i program and copied to usb.  Came with warning content protected and not playable on pc.   So it is not just HD protected but SD as well.   Good news is should be able to copy the recorded programs you want to keep, to external drive then if the internal drive packs up you can replace the drive and copy the backed up programs back again.  So all good

No so in my case , Backing up HD channels gives a warning that you cant play them on a PC,   but you also get a Warning for SD channels, but the warning is different it warns that that the content can be played on a PC.

The recoding that I tested with was TV3 and Choice.

I even tested the copies on a PC no problems.

What TV channels did you use..?

I know satellite is all SD on freeview so didnt expect different.  So will try other channels and programs over next few days on T1050.

I have only just brought a T1050PRV so am still trying to figure a lot out.
After upgrading to this firmware I lost recorded programs and bookings - sounds like I am the only one to see this behaviour so far though.

Is there a resident expert here for this box? I have questions I can't answer after much searching on the net.

Ive never lost a thing, may be you did some this wrong when you did the Update...

Power off the unite, if the hard drive is running wait a few mins, this can be averted if you set the unite to LPM to On as its shuts down the hard drive.

Press the OK button then plug the unit back in,  on the units screen you will see a few N1 N2, just wait till the USB comes up then release the button, with the TV on you will see the upgrade progress.

I am a retired TV computer tech so might be able to help, been trough 2 T1020 moved up to the T1050, on my third one supplied by DishTV and seem to be stable, but are affected by Cell phone towers like Telecoms XT network, had to fit  a mast head filter to get over it.

well so far I like this new firmware.  It works well with my windows home server so all my movies and tv series work on it now.  They are in mp4 format and avi. with aac and mp3 sound.
Does take a while scrolling through but at least they do work now.

Cheers Zip disk, yep I followed that process, not much you can do other than follow the prompts and wait. Good to hear it worked OK for others as it gives more hope for the future :-)
