It looks like it may be posible to run third party software images like Enigma2 on this hardware.
Are you sure your units aren't overheating?

We are in communication with the importer and have a link to the latest firmware for the unit. We have discovered the internal HD is overheating and is the problem. Apparently these HDs were a problem and were later replaced. Will post all changes after weekend when my son has dealt to it.
Overheating hard drives is an unusual problem. Do you know what model hard drive was in there? A drive designed for PVRs shouldn't produce that much heat.

Any idea what make of HDD is in your unit Onetapu? Mine is definitely a Western Digital - have used them many times in PC builds and find them very reliable. Thats not to say overheating might be an issue if the airflow through the unit is restricted, but I have 4 WD HDD's stacked in my own PC and they can get pretty hot, but have never caused any issues such as we see with the F9000-HD freezing. An earlier discussion mentioned audio breaks during playback - thats another common issue that I've noticed with our Ultraplus PVR. Given the commonality of these symptoms, clearly there is something unique to the F9000-HD that must be causing them. I tend to think the problem may either lie with the PSU or possibly the printed circuit board, rather than the HDD ??
I had problems with a F9000-HD frequently locking up also. Thought it might be overheating in our entertainment unit so ended up cutting a hole in the shelf it sat on and mounting an old Power supply fan directly under the PVR. Wired up a USB Plug to it and plugged into the PVR USB Port. Never had a problem with lockups since. Cheers
