sdavisnz: Oh and today was the last day ever Jim Hickey does the weather too. sad day for tv in general

So that'd be the 2nd 'last day ever' from memory - I recall he 'retired' a good 4-5 years back and then got pulled back in/out of retirement. (Wikipedia actually puts it as end of 2003, return 2007)

There was a rumour a few months ago that Paul was going to run for Akl mayor. He has since suggested he wont run but damn, that would make for an interesting term for Aucklanders.

I would definitely vote from him, cant do any worse than the incumbent

> We will never see another Bill T,  Mcphail and Gadsby againin NZ..

So true and it's our loss. Afe66 didn't find Paul funny, but my wife & I have never laughed so much. The interaction
with Yanaka (spelling?) was a good feature too.  I sent a few div-x's to a friend in the UK who was most envious and said they'd never see anything like that on their channels.

We're thinking of recording his morning shows next year and watching them back in the evening.

KiwiNZ: Jim Hickey was good, Paul Henry was a bigoted dickhead his racist outburst anti disabled rants we offensive.

Unfortunately it is this sort of attitude that is quickly turning our country into a nanny state.  This and "everyone is a winner just for trying" in schools....

Having no tolerance for racism and anti disabled bigotry is not being a nanny state.

I think Paul Henry is a fantastic interviewer.

I can't actually remember a "Racist outburst" nor do I remember an "antidisabled  rant". I do remember him saying that Susan Boyle was retarded (she clearly is) and he was the only one in our media who pronounced Sheila Dick...t's (geekzone wont let me use her name) name correctly (as confirmed by her) He also laughed at a woman's decision to sport a mustache, but hey, if she wants to display a lack of fashion sense she should expect to be laughed at.

It's the very sensitive and thin skinned people who are contributing to the nanny state mentality in this country.

Ever had racist slurs against you
Ever been refused entry to a restaurant?
Ever have public transport drive right past you?

dammed I guess I must be thin skinned for getting upset by that.

His racist and other disgraceful outburts were widely shown and why he was let go from TVNZ and rightly so.  You attitude is also offensive.

I was born in the US but lived in NZ most of my life.  The amount of derogatory comments I am told about American's by people who don't realise my birth country is staggering.
I have been refused entry to a restaurant.
I have had public transport drive right past me.  Happens more often than you think and had nothing to do with race.

Paul Henry hasn't done any of the above to me and neither do I blame him for it.

Not everything he does has a racial bent.  But we will focus on what we want to I guess.

And its comments and attitudes from a public figure like Paul Henry that legitimises bigotry for the ignorant and helps perpetuate discrimination.

Actually I've had another think about it, I am quite put out that you think may attitude is offensive, What gives you the right to judge me like that? You didn't say that what I wrote offended you, you said "You Attitude is also offensive". I think you should apologize.
