Also, there's nothing on Channel 9, unless you like big bang theory or skippy or good morning america, every time I look.

The State Of Origin at the MCG was worth a look......

Don't use satellite much anymore but I just checked and Nine is still coming in strong on my non-Freeview STB. It identifies as L-Bird and goes blank during commercial breaks so can be missed during a scan. Just try again. It is no harder to find than TV1, 2, 3, etc.

Those have been unavailable for a long time. Not sure if they could be received here with any dish. Check Lyngsat for details.

In my experience DVB S2 gives a better (sharper) picture than the Freeview channels which use the older DVB system even with a signal quality of 73% whereas Freeview channels are around 90% on my 90cm dish. You can buy a DVB S2 receiver which is 1080p on TradeMe for less than $100 .

Which model are you thinking of?

I bought a chinese skybox clone (yh?) for $100 and while it has it's quirks, one of the nice things is that it records in standard formats.  If you buy the mainstream models they'll encrypt the recordings, or make you format a special drive, or some nonsense.  To watch my recorded programmes, I can just pull the usb out of the sat box and put it into the tv.

Same here. I have the YH. Also the weird quirks, but it works fine for watching and recording.

I can't find this on a scan so want to enter details directly into my DVB-S2 TV tuner.  It's asking for the following which I have no idea.

Network ID
Transport ID
Service ID
PMT PID

I have the frequency and symbol rate

Thanks.

My info panel shows the following range of gobbledigook:

PID:V 308 A 256 P 308 SID 1185
Satellite: K_Optus_D1
Transponder: 12384/V/3750
PID SID=04A1, PID=020, VPID=0134

Note that it is not a full feed.  There is no time signal.  And probably more.

Not sure what there is to watch on it, as most of what it shows, gets shown more conveniently here on the main channels.  i.e. The Voice and The Block.  The news and the current affairs shows that they'd never show over here are the most interesting bits to me.

I assume the number after the transponder is the frequency 12384000, which is different to what I found 12381000 elsewhere.

I tried both and guessed what some of the ID numbers should be based on your details, but no signal.  Is there a signal currently?

Nover mind.  All sorted.  Someone on the MediaPortal forum managed to scan it and gave me the details which is working.

I was expecting HD since they are using DVB-S2 technology, but unfortunately it's plain SD.

Looks great to me on the 32 inch panasonic :-D  Beggars can't be choosers and all that.
