Can anybody confirm this is still transmitting FTA on Optus D1?

I'm interested out of curiosity in light of the Spark / TVNZ / Sky cease and desist - sure they should also be filing one against Channel 9 for broadcasting content into NZ that they do not have the local rights for? And satellite manufacturers for selling products enabling people to acquire this content?

you may not be aware of this, but you are never forced to sue anybody if you don't want to.

Sky etc might believe that what you say re satellites etc is illegal, but they might also consider that it isn't worth pursuing since so few people actually do it and it doesn't really harm them very much.

Also, I'm not sure how easy it would be for an NZ company to sue an Australian company.

You will need a Non-Freeview approved receiver capable of receiving DVB-S2. The signal and picture quality is better than the Freeview channels on my 1080p receiver although the signal is not full HD.

When tuning in  dont be fooled by the blank screen during ad breaks.
The Channel Nine coverage of the Cricket World Cup final was awesome WITHOUT ADS despite some of their one-eyed commentators !!! cool

Ch9 is not broadcasting to NZ.

There is a feed on a transponder that we can receive, it may be gone tomorrow.

It is no different to those on the west coast being able to receive Australian TV channels in the summer months due to ionosphere trapping of the signal.

Channel 9 rents capacity ON d1 due to a config issue with the D1 satellite. It just happens to be on the vertical beam , channels 7 Australia also use d1 for feeds on the vertical polarity also. ABC and SBS Australia use the H pol for feeding digital terrestrial transmitters. Neither of them target or market themselves to viewers in New Zealand Over the years there have been pretty much every Australian channel  there at some stage or another. ABC NT was one there for years on the old B1

Hi Keriboi,

You will need a DVB-S2 capable decoder, and any standard dish/LNB setup.

It is then just a case of loading transponder 12381, with a vertical polarity and a SR of 3750. Do an FTA scan on the transponder and you'll have it.

Important to note, if you have another freeview/sky decoder in the house then there can be problems as CH9 comes on a vertical polarity but the rest of freeview/sky is horizontal and as you can imaging the LNB will not be able to do both at the same time.

Come again?

How's this possible, and IS it possible with Digital Transmissions?

I know it was plausible with Analog, but not with DVB-T!
I know, then this would have the potential to cause havok with the local NZ transmissions.

This is why I love forums like this

I like Perth Bucky SEN-9.  It's the live channel, where they have live feeds going to switch to and away from during the news.  So you get some old bird getting prepped to tell a story about how in her hick town there was a plane crash of some sort.  And you get the weather man doing a short presentation on the weather at a trade show, and while not being shown live on the real channel, stands around with the staged crowd who you've seen positioned, and talks about ferraris.  It's quite amusing, and it's sad to say, sometimes the best thing on satellite television, which doesn't say much for the rest of the options.

Also, there's nothing on Channel 9, unless you like big bang theory or skippy or good morning america, every time I look.

Hey guys. Don't often post anything in these forums but after doing a blind scan on my DVB-S2 free view box, I've managed to get Nine Network :)

Has anyone been successful in getting GO! or GEM too??? There once was a time, bout five years ago, I could get these AND SBS too.

Have you got a DVB-S2 Freeview box or just a standard satelite one?

Because I'm getting NINE NETWORK at the moment...

The only advantage to dvb-s2, as I understand it, is that you get NINE NETWORK.   Unless you have a sky card of the right kind, and the box has the setup to use it.

Is it worth you getting a dvb-s2 they are cheap?
