I'd be down if it included lots of cool documentary's during the weekend and cable tv style comedies (not sit coms) over the evenings

"aimed at the Male Demographic,"
I suspect the proliferation of cooking shows has caused a drop in male TV viewers, and subsequently male orientated advertising, which TVNZ would like to get back..
Amen to that!
Possibly they'll give TV4 a run for it's money.
I'm hoping for some doco's which are noticeably absent from NZ free-to-air.
Funny how it is "skewed" when aimed at guys and normal when aimed at girls - ??

I think the lineup will be similar to this from 7Mate in Australia: https://au.tv.yahoo.com/plus7/browse/channel/7mate/
Yeah - the format has been proven over in Australia by 7Mate and ONE (The Channel Ten-owned mens' channel) - Interesting parallel with the Aussie ONE as well, as it too morphed from a sports-only channel to a broader male-interest format.
Good to see TVNZ do something with their Freeview mux capacity that's not shopping, religious, foreign-language or time-shifting.
maybe if it's something like 'Dave' here in the UK it could work

That looks like a great line-up.
Not sure how many of those shows TVNZ has the rights for, but a good amount of top UK-sourced content is always a plus.
Doesn't NECESSARILY have to be new shows too. Some of the classics can get the odd run (When was the last time free-to-air TV here screen Monty Python?)

Something for the boys to do while the wife is cooking dinner?
What will there be for the wife to do while the boys are cleaning house?

LOL, I checked to see if it was April 1. Anyone think the standard of PR writing has fallen? ...
Quoting TVNZ Chief Executive Kevin Kenrick:
“We know advertisers are seeking commercial solutions that address audience fragmentation and embrace viewers’ multi-screening behaviour. We’re developing an integrated media buy across on air and online that makes it easier to connect with audiences.”
Lost in translation
What kind of programming is someone who speaks that sort of bureaubabble likely to come up with?

I first read this news through this terrible "article": http://thespinoff.co.nz/22-01-2016/there-wont-be-anybody-checking-gender-at-the-door-tvnzs-ceo-on-the-new-man-channel/
Not sure who this bint thinks she is, never heard of her and the website before, and I hope I never do again.
Not sure about the site, but I quite liked the article. Very witty and well-written.

15 years ago this would of been huge news. With on-demand, TV channels are becoming far less relevant.

I got the distinct impression that she really doesn't comprehend what the channel is about and fills her article with nonsense suggesting the channel is the product of some kind of patriarchal attempt to control what wimminfolk watch.
Also, she really can't spell. "Where female reporters can bear their arms without breaking the dress code?" Bare. Unless she really does think that female presenters should be allowed to carry firearms around the studio.

Agreed. It also says she was a "Projectionist". Unless she was in the Cinema industry 20+ years ago she was not a Projectionist. Pushing the Start button at a Digital Cinema or Multiplex Film Platter system doesn't count.

That could have been a clever play on words, though it probably wasn't. Maybe she sees arm-baring as bearing arms?

I hope they realize the male demographic isn't all sports and fishing obsessed. Between the cars, sports, fishing, men of TV demographic are big sci-fi and action fans (as well as docos).
There is almost no scripted stuff on TV anymore. Broadcast free to air TV is dying (sing, cook and dance). As are blockbuster movies (avengers five hundred and sixty four, or an reboot of the reboot of the reboot of the movie reboot anyone?). The content well and originality and interest is drying up as people move to the internet (piracy, purchased download or streaming).
This almost certainly means that any broadcast free to air demographic is simply getting RAPIDLY OLDER. Does this mean our new male centered TV channel will be about prostate health, and hearing aids?
