WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT DUKE

When will DUKE be live?
DUKE will be here on 20 March 2016 - it will have a continuous daily schedule between 1800-2400 and sporting events outside of these hours.

Where will I find it?
DUKE will be live streamed online www.watchduke.co.nz and available free-to-air across Freeview channel 13 and SKY (EPG position to be confirmed).

Will the content be available OnDemand?
Yes, key programmes will be available on TVNZ OnDemand. Viewers can also watch a live-stream of DUKE at www.watchduke.co.nz

What content will be on DUKE?
Jeff Latch, our Director of Content, says viewers will enjoy the range of content DUKE will offer.
"Viewers can get their fix of in depth and factual locos such as American Fringe and Scam City they can laugh it up with Family Guy and Angie Tribeca; get hooked on top dramas including Gotham and Agent X and of course get their sporting fix with major events from the AFL to WRC.
"Big budget movies will feature in the schedule too - look out for the likes of De Niro, Gyllenhaal, Schwarzenegger and Affleck.
"There's lots more to come. We'll be sharing more of DUI/Ws starting line-up as we get closer to launch."

The sample video has an HD option, which the broadcast will not. False advertising? I complained to sky when they had neon ad's in HD which their service couldnt deliver. Didnt bother making an ASA complaint as that seems to be a useless service.

It also is full of interlacing which they were clearly too lazy to fix when making it.

Being an SD broadcast I will probably not use it. Will see what the online stream looks like before I pass judgement on that.

TVNZ7 wasn't a commercial channel - it was funded with govt money, which the govt withdrew. Duke is intended to be a commercial channel and won't receive govt funding.

Still have money for Duke, which could have been used for TVNZ7 I wouldn't mind ads in my news - just want a local 24 hour news channel. I think the last earthquake in Christchurch proved that we need a local 24 hour TV news channel.

Will Duke be free to air on Satellite - or just terrestrial?

Both, it will replace TVNZ POP UP

I am surprised how good the TVNZ POP UP online stream (When available) is 90% clearer than DVB-T signal almost looked like it was streaming in 720p

You shouldn't be looking at TVNZ 7 as an example, you forgot what happened to TVNZ U! Commercial Channel, broadcasted from 12pm-12am, 2 years later.. GONE

U! was aimed at a young audience like FOUR - and I don't think it ever really worked.

Agreed. TVNZ7 isn't a useful comparison as costs and funding are different from U or Duke. Comparing Duke and U is more apt. Hopefully TVNZ will try harder with Duke than they did with U and it will survive.

The only thing I can take out from U that worked was ULIVE, conversations, Facebook Interaction, Live polls, it was going somewhere and is possible especially for linear broadcast

"Confirmed shows to air on the free-to-air service from March 20 include American Fringe, Scam City, The Indestructibles, Gotham, Agent X, Jekyll & Hyde, Beowulf, Family Guy, Two and a Half Men, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Last Ship and Angie Tribeca."

NZ Herald. Uncomplimentary lead ; ).

Angie Tribeca something I wanted to see so this is good. I can't see myself sitting through many ad breaks or watching at particular times so actual watch level for me will depend on online presentation strategy I guess.
