rayonline: On my phone. Laptop won't logon with security check. My own rooms too cold.

The first splitter is under the house. Does the amp power plug need to be there? Possible aerial- mast amp - splitter - one goes upstairs other goes downstairs. Downstairs next to tv I out the power plug.

Amp power supply can still be behind the TV provided the splitter is a "power pass" type at least on the socket leading to the Power Supply so the voltage will pass thru to the masthead. Also your picture shows one output not used. That would indicate you have yet another splitter somewhere for the two downstairs TVs? Not a good idea to have an unterminated socket on the splitter. I'd suggest run 3 separate leads to TVs - one upstairs to the other splitter and 2 downstairs to the TVs.

Alternative solution is install more than one antenna. Feeding 4 or 5 TVs of a single antenna in marginal strength is not a good idea. I'd use one antenna for downstairs 2 and another for upstairs, and you still might need an Amp on each.

Stupid question I guess but confirm that the antenna is installed with the correct polarity for your location? Trying to receive a horizontally polarised signal with a vertical antenna results in massive loss of signal strength.

Thanks.

I am on the bottom of Churton Park, Wellington.  The Freeview maps don't say horizontal or vertical.  I googled and it appears Baxters and Kaukau are both horizontal.  Is my aerial the right way up?  Will post a pic tomorrow of my setup.

Yes, the first splitter.  One is not being used.  We passed a RG6 from the TV room to downstairs instead when we had non HD Sky in the past using the RF out port on the Sky machine (wall socket to wall socket).  Now we are no longer with Sky and no HD ready TV in the master bedroom and no set up box we left it.  Many years ago, with VHF that was just 2 TVs downstairs - TV lounge and master bedroom, at the time upstairs didn't have TV.

That aerial is adjusted for horizontal polarisation.

OK. It's horizontal. Now which Transmitter is it pointing at?

Not sure.  Maybe Fitzherbert towards Lower Hutt?  It is closer to Kaukau but it is towards that up hill drive way (in my photo) that is towards the right side.  Towards the left side is Baxter Knob but there is maybe a hill there.  We are in Churton Park and it is pointed towards Grenada.  So that may be towards Lower Hutt ...  Are any Wellington transmitters vertical?  Kaukau is horizontal but anywhere we point it we couldn't get a good signal that way.  Being horizontal the best is where it is currently at.

Hmm. Found your general area on Google Maps and looks to me like it's pointing over the HT Power lines on the hills towards the Coast about 90 degrees off from Kaukau. Your neighbour seems to be pointing the same way but the green roof (across the road?) is 180 degrees the other way. Obviously not a great signal area where you are. In that situation it's usually a matter of finding the "Sweet spot" on the roof.

Anyway Kaukau and Baxters are horizontal. The other two are vertical. Looking at the Freeview coverage maps Kaukau is the only viable option.

My area is the Middleton Road / Halswater Drive.  It is pointing towards that factory as you can see ....

Looking at the pics I posted.  My neighbour is with the grey roof - yes they are pointing in the same direction as us.  Across the road and a bit up the hill, the one with the green roof is pointing to Kaukau yes the other way round.  My neighbour is pointing to Kaukau.  Another house down the hill is pointing the same way we are.  Yes Kaukau is 90 degrees to the right if we look towards the factory as how the aerial is pointing.

At the start, we tried a aerial like our neighbour the Yagi.  Was so bad, we had opted for the double phased array.  They might only have one TV set.

We just leave the aerial horizontal?

Yes. Perhaps try re-aligning towards Kaukau and raising/lowering to find any better position. And in view of your location I'd opt for one antenna per TV or 2 at the most. The phased array you have is probably the best choice. And maybe add a decent masthead amp.

One of these with 4 cables will run 4 TVs.
