sub: Its pretty easy to setup GB-PVR.

1) Start the config app
2) Create a capture source, with the recording source set to 'Digital Recording Plugin' and the epg source set to 'DVB EPG'
3) Click the Settings button next to the Digital Recording Plugin. Select your capture device, and set the country to NZ and the region to 'Wellington (Mt KauKau)'. OK out of this screen.
4) Click the 'Map digital channels to epg channels' button. It'll now scan for channels, and at completion should show the dozen or so Freeview channels'.
5) Tick each of the channels you want, then OK all the way out of the config app. You should be good to go now.

This setup wong get you a working EPG, since they're not transmitting the seven day EPG, but I didnt want to complicate these steps with instructions for using xmltvnz or dvbtoxmltv.

great guide, works perfect Vote to have it added to the main thread.

Could you now complicate it with instructions for dvbtoxmltv

More complicated stuff like this is better discussed on the GB-PVR forums.

(Just so you know though, in NZ dvbtoxmltv can be used by people that also have DVB-S, to extract the listings from the satellite service that can also be used on the DVB-T service.

So you HAVE to have a DVB-S card to get dvbtoxmltv working?

Yes, if you intend to use it in NZ. Its just a utility I wrote to extract DVB EIT listings to an XMLTV file. Its of no use trying to extract the DVB EIT listings from the DVB-T service, because they're not transmitting it (nothing to extract). If you want listings and dont have DVB-S also in your setup, then you'd probably need to look at using xmltvnz.

I personally use dvbtoxmltv to extract the Sky DVB-S listings to an XMLTV file, and then use then use those listings for my TelstraClear DVB-C service.

I followed them this morning
I downloaded the latest version and followed the instructions and it worked perfect.

if you have followed them to the letter and it is still not working i would suggest that
A you have issues with your aeriel
B you are not able to receive freeview at your house.

Yeah, there's not too much you can do wrong, so I'm guessing you dont receive any signal from Mt KauKau.

Sub,

How much effort is involved in adding the additional Wellington transmitters to the list already in GBPVR i.e. channels 51,53 and 57 from Fitzherbert?

Cheers Mike

Its pretty straight forward.

Create a file called C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\BDA\DVB-T\0169.ini with the following contents. I've added this to the default set of files for the next release.

[TERTYPE]
1=New Zealand
2=Wellington (Fitzherbert)
[DVB]
;Position = Channelname,Frequency(KHz),Inversion(0,1),0,Bandwidth (7MHz=1, 8MHz=2)
0=3
1=C51,714000,0,0,8
2=C53,730000,0,0,8
3=C57,762000,0,0,8

Thanks Sub, perfect. We should just extend the 0169.ini file to include all the frequencies for Wellington and that will be sweet. Guess the same will be needed for each of the other centres.

Cheers Mike

Which area do you live in? Most likly the aeriel is too small and you will need to buy a decent one.

In my experience GB-PVR and Media Portal are not always listing all channels available. Go to dvbviewer and download their TransEdit MMC tool. It just a tuner and should let you see more...
