I been struggling along for a while now trying to get Freeview working on my HVR-900. To cut a long story short I have got no where. Any chance one of you could help me out? I am prepared to buy cheapish software (but none of those $100 business).

I have tried using mediaportal and GB-PVR so far and haven't even had a signal come through. Note however that I can get analog signals for prime, TV3, TV1 (even worse than the others), TV2 and the Maori channel, although they come through pretty poorly (lots of static, fuzzy etc).

I'm having the same issues here. I can find a single channel on gbpvr but on eyetv I can find them but can't view them...

I don't find any channel. Eyetv works on windows? I was hoping to watch digital Boston Legal tonight, guess its going to have to be analog.

I think gbpvr might have the wrong information for Wellington or something like that.

Eyetv is a program for the mac. I didn't get any channel on windows either (with GBpvr)

I'm in a area known as Te Aro/Kelburn, on the Terrace. Basically 10 minutes walk from parliament, so I am pretty central.

What sort of aerial do you have and where is it aimed?

I am using the small aerial that came with the TV tuner. I do not have it pointed in any particular direction since it comes on a flat based and I would need to find a way to hold it on an angle.

I'm in Aro Valley and I've got the HVR-900 working (well, almost) using the little aerial. To get it to pick up enough signal it needs to be either by an upstairs window or sitting on the roof outside.

If I use our UHF aerial (an old sky aerial), it's more reliable.

When you scan in GB-PVR it should pick up the different stations. If you're not getting anything at this point I would guess you have a reception problem.

Do you have any sort of external aerial you can connect to?

Well I am in university hall of residence so I may be able to use the one on the roof but that'll be inpractical. I can only see the wall socket for it, I don't know if there is an acutal aerial (there probably is though).

It would be great to have some instruction for GB-PVR or media portal so I actually know I am doing things right.

You probably need to plug in to the aerial outlet in your room. You should be able to get a suitable cable from Dick Smith, Jaycar etc.

If you run the config program for GB-PVR, go to the "Capture Sources" tab, add your HVR-900 in here as a source. You should pick up a big list of channels while doing this.

I have recording source = Digital Recording Plugin, EPG source = DVB EPG Broadcast although I need to change this as it only gives the current and next program and channel change = no changer.

Its pretty easy to setup GB-PVR.

1) Start the config app
2) Create a capture source, with the recording source set to 'Digital Recording Plugin' and the epg source set to 'DVB EPG'
3) Click the Settings button next to the Digital Recording Plugin. Select your capture device, and set the country to NZ and the region to 'Wellington (Mt KauKau)'. OK out of this screen.
4) Click the 'Map digital channels to epg channels' button. It'll now scan for channels, and at completion should show the dozen or so Freeview channels'.
5) Tick each of the channels you want, then OK all the way out of the config app. You should be good to go now.

This setup wong get you a working EPG, since they're not transmitting the seven day EPG, but I didnt want to complicate these steps with instructions for using xmltvnz or dvbtoxmltv.
