When you start seeing PIN connection issues it's the codec. Recording of course works fine as no decoding is going on, the transmission stream is just being stored.

I am running XP, but had the same problems early on in the day. My advice is in the following order...

- get OS installed and patched
- get video card installed and running
- get PowerDVD 8 up and running and ensure that the hardware acceleration is enabled in the options
- install and configure what ever PVR you are going to use (MP IMHO is also the easiest to configure with the HVR2200)
- ENSURE that the PVR is set to use the Cyberlink h.264 codec for the TV streams AND that you set the de-interlacing to WEAVE (I found that leaving it as auto or anything else gave me PIN issues with DirectShow).

As for editing .ini files or registries and the such. Nothing like that went on here, but as I say I'm running XP.

If you are going for MP, then once the TVServer is configured first check the preview option under the channel list. If it shows a picture you are sweet to carry on, otherwise the problem is still most likely in the codec config.

Well I have run a memory test on the off-chance but noting wrong.

MediaPortal was set-up OK and is a not go as well.
My gut feeling is that there is a conflict with they system somewhere. I am not getting PIN errors now that I am using a H264 Codec and if the error is across all these players I would say it is either the Codec or the way the codec is implemented. I have tried sevral H264 codecs and no joy either. Hence my feeling about something conflicting.

I will do another reinstall of vista in the next few days and put the bare minimum programs on before I run a viewer.

Another test....

Download one of the Freeview HD samples (elsewhere on these forums) and see if it will play in PowerDVD.

That will tell you straight away if it's a codec problem.

Dedicated HTPC
- Windows Vista 64bit SP1
- Mediaportal
- 780G MB w. onboard H264 decoding
- 2GB Ram
- Audioout via onboard SPDIF optica
- 1080P Samsung 46" LCD
- 5.1" Samsung HT Receiver with DTS/Dolby Digital 5.1 etc

I just reformatted my whole computer last night and was planning to install codecs tonight.

I downloaded the latest HVR2200 drivers from the UK website (version 7.2.9.26105)

Which codecs do people think are the best.

1. Powercinema - CD-PCM-5.1-HD-AAC-V1.1
2. Powerdvd 7
3. Powerdvd 8 Ultra

Any other codecs i should install??

Just to update everyone.
I installed Vista 64bit with SP1 update.
Then i installed the drivers for my motherboard (gigabyte mb w. onboard 3200HD video) including ATI Catalyst 7.4
I then install the HVR2200 driver supplied with the card
Next i installed powercinema 5.1 from the cd supplied with the card.
Set the codec to powercinema h264 in mediaportal and left everything else as default.
Didn't require installation of ANY other codecs
Set post processing to weave in mediaportal.
I get perfect picture on all channels including 3 with no stutter even during fast panning shots on CSI.
I get audio via SPDIF without having to change any of the audio settings/codec.
Unfortunately i can't get the EPG going properly yet.

Thankyou. If that program works i will be very happy. i spent a few hours mucking around with EPG yesterday and the fiancee is feeling very jealous of me spending so much time fooling around with the HTPC.

Doesn't work. I installed freeviewnz-epg-gbvr into c:\program files (x86)\team mediaportal\mediaportal tv server\

I run cmd to get a command prompt

I then type cd c:\program files (x86)\team mediaportal\mediaportal tv server\ to access the directory

I then run C:\Program Files (x86)\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal TV Server>freeviewNZ-EPG-GBPVR.exe -mediaportalTVServer

I get the following responce

Do you have UAC enabled?

If so thats is the problem, it is preventing writing to the folder where mediaportal stores the EPG.

You can change the permission for any folder/file with right click->Properties->Security->Edit, selecting Users and ticking Full Control under Allow

The above has been reported to work.

Thanks for your post though, that should allow me to get it going via a scheduled task

Well to update you on my trials...
Ended up doing a re-install of Vista, SP1 update, MBoard and Video Card then HVR2200 drivers. then straight on with power cinema drivers.
NO joy with DVBviewer showing TV.

The suggestion to try the Freeview samples is an excellent one.
NO samples worked with the drivers.

Then put Power DVD 8.
I got the TV One and TV3 TVNZ7 going fine on DVBviewer. The freeview HD sample did not run - claimed a filter error.

Any idea why the freeview HD will not run??

at this stage I am going to try the card in a friends PC and see if it will install and run. I am out of ideas. Any more help would be great.

I am down to takling the card back if this does not work....

Glad you got it working.

I notice you use both GBPVR and Mediaportal RC1. Do you prefer mediaportal rc1 or gbpvr?

The reason why I ask is that I was just thinking GBPVR maybe better suited for me as i here it is more stable and is less resource hungry. I only use mediaportal for live TV / EPG Schedule Recording / Watching Movies / Occasional music

My Setup is as below, running Vista64 SP1 i use the silverstone imon remote control via keystrokes.
