Foxtel have most/some of those channels too... Sky probably/quite possibly (as foxtel are a bigger player than sky nz) has the same rights deal as foxtel.

I have a fetch. Found it when I was looking for a tivo replacement for the in-laws.

Bought one myself and dumped foxtel.

Love the thing.

There's even rumours of a Plex app in the future

Did you get an Australian Fetch unit & does it work with NZ Freeview channels ?

Doesnt TVNZ have Disney rights? They took a whopping great write down for the contract but I dont think its lapsed, has it? Do any other local streaming services have Disney content?

And I'm guessing that you're assuming the Nickelodeon content on Lightbox is non-exclusive?

I assume Disney won't be renewing those rights as they are building an equivalent to Netflix for Disney content, I do not know what the worldwide release plans for this channel are it might be another reason for people to use region unlocking services for a while longer.

I think Disney will be a bit like HBO in releasing its offering on a market-by-market basis depending on the maximum opportunity. At present Netflix reportedly pays something like $400m pa for the Disney content to be in its catalogue. Disney obviously thinks that the US opportunity for its content is greater than that (including the opportunity cost of growing a competitors business). Of course, like all content providers to Netflix, it has no idea how successful or otherwise its content has been being in the Netflix library.

Could they be looking at an arrangement with one of the RSP's in NZ? Spark had a fail with the TiVo. Would they look at something like Fetch now? Maybe Vocus as Dodo sell Fetch in Aussie?

I think Disney is likely not thinking of America as it is small scale compared to the world 300 million people compared to 7+ billion even if only half have reliable internet access it leaves US for dead.

I'm pretty sure Fetch are trying to get out of the RSP-supplied arrangement here in Oz.. Too many issues with support and accounts. We have sooo many RSPs that churn is massive, and this is causing Fetch issues with second hand RSP-locked boxes sold on gumtree etc.

I wonder if this is what really triggered the price drop - could be Sky found out about Fetch's plans and pre-empted, and then Fetch made a public announcement to try and slow down uptake of the new Sky prices until they launch here.

I think Fetch has a chance as they're not simply going head to head with Sky, they almost have a freemium model where first you buy the box to record freeview, and then you can pick and choose the tv or streaming you want to add to it.

A time-poor geek is hardly a geek at all

I don't think SKY has Exclusive NZ rights to it. Also this is IPTV delivery vs satellite.

Linear channels delivered over IPTV+FTA channels over the terrestrial tuners with apps functionality.

A full package of around 37 iptv channels would be about $25 NZ once you add in $ conversion and gst

its not a HUGE improvment over SKY's Starter pack. There's still plenty of crappy filler like Bloomberg, Fashion TV, CGTN and Al Jazeera etc
