Comes up audio only on my LG TV. And 200 now says invalid service.

Same here. My 4k LG is a 2014 model, I have not checked the specs to see if it can do DVB-T2

I know enough to be dangerous

What happened to the radio spectrum that Sky used for their DVB-T2 igloo service?

Have they handed it back to Kordia for reuse or are they effectively "bed blocking"?

Having just bought a UHD TV I guess it won't be compatible with any new broadcast standard.

That maybe because "State-owned company Kordia will began the demonstration broadcasts from its Waiatarua transmission site overlooking Auckland at 1pm on Freeview channel 201." not Skytower..

The original article said they would be using Sky Tower. It was changed to Waiatarua later on (after the post).

Maybe because the thread title (subsequently corrected) said trails instead of trials. So didn't see any trails from Waiatarua either ;-)

Just did a quick retune and am watching the Kordia UHD transmission on my 2018 LG TV (phew). Now if only TVNZ would have UHD broadcasts ready for the 2019 RWC........

Cause nothing beats watching adverts (interrupted by Rugby) in 4K :) Remember that TVNZ only have seven games (including the opening game and final). That means at least two All Blacks games (assuming they make it to the final) won't be live on TVNZ.

Given Optus's debacle with the Football World Cup, I can't see Spark being game enough to offer 4K streaming either (or ISPs prepared to pay for the bandwidth to peer with Spark at 4K).

Personally, I'd like to see the On-Demand TV Apps support the live Internet streams, as my reception is fairly crappy (in a shadow), but my fibre bandwidth is great!

TVNZ On Demand and ThreeNow provide live streams for all their channels (not the +1 channels). TVNZ support Chromecast of these streams, Mediaworks don't.

Yeah, I'm aware there's already streams and that you can mirracast some of them, but I'd rather the apps, built into the TV, could play the live streams. Much better for the WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor).

Same situation. 2014 LG TV, audio only on 201 and invalid channel on 200. Seems the early adopters who were sold "UHD" TVs got screwed over.

I suspect the issue here is the delivery mechanism - DVB-T2 with h.265/HEVC video encoding. h.265/HEVC is still fairly fresh to the consumer space, so I wouldn't be surprised if your 2014 TV doesn't support it.

According to rsm.govt.nz, Sky Network Television still have a licence for that spectrum (DTV channels 30 and/or 31 - 542 - 558 MHz). The licence expires in March 2020.

I don't know which frequency/channel Kordia are using for the 4k trial. However, either way, I think it's effectively MBIE that manages spectrum licenses, management rights etc. on behalf of the government and the public. In other words: Sky would be dealing with MBIE if they were negotiating to vacate their licence early.

I'd be interested to know what happened to the DVB-T2 transmission gear.

Pretty much this. The TV is 4K capable, it just isn't capable of new standards that have appeared in recent years.

It's like people 10 years ago that found their TV with HDMI suddenly didn't work with newer HDMI devices as the TV had issues with HDCP.

A bit OT I know, but the introduction of digital tv broadcasts (initial test broadcasts like this thread's subject) is what first got me involved with Geekzone. OEM digital recorders were horrendously expensive and although we had a plasma tv, it was analogue only.
So the way around it was to build a HTPC, slap in some tuner cards and apply a lot of patience. And quite a bit of help from GZers.
Streaming and on-demand catchup services mean it's pretty much redundant these days and is only doing secondary duty as a home automation and Plex server test bed. Might be worth a giggle to see if it can pick up channel 201, although I don't think the processor would be up to decoding a 4K stream.

Sorry mate, my fibre connection is a whole lot more reliable than a shaky rod on my roof - of which we don't even have on our place!

If you had read the article about all the technical challenges the BBC had in streaming the World Cup in 4K then you would have seen that despite having a fast fibre connection to your home, that is only the tail end of the distribution. The BBC had to limit the streams to 60K users they said.

If you can receive the OTA signal, then that's got to be a more reliable delivery mechanism and not relying on such much infrastructure.

I'm getting the Kordia UHD Test 3840x2160P by Eden Park on my 2015 Bravia 4K.

Looks great and the test content is actually better than normal TV, cool nature documentaries.

Anyone with a 2014 Sony X8500B TV able to tune and view this trial? The TV supports H.265/HVEC as well as DVB-T2, just not sure if that codec is available for Aerial sources in addition to streaming services. Haven't been successful with my searching to see either way.

Missed out on the Freeview+ (despite the same tv in Australia offering it, as well as the software being capable). Only issue is that the model is not on the whitelist so it doesn't allow access.
