Spong:  Only problem is that TVNZ seem  to be feeding comentary at far too low a level to the centre channel (in my case anyway).

Fixed, check how it is know?

It's great now. In fact Freeview HD picture/sound is so addictive, I don't know how I'll cope once the Olympics are over. SD will never be good enough now.

Tivo upgrades to operate with the new OzTivo EPG, support and service. Over 400 performed here so far. See: www.hillcrest.net.nz

From what I saw on the FreeviewHD preview channel, TV1 and TV2 plan to broadcast selected programmes in HD including Criminal Minds, Pushing Up Daisies, Without a Trace and others. I guess they are following TV3 and if the show is available in HD, they will broadcast it that way.

I see during the Olympics that TVNZ is advertizing "In HD where available"  on some of their upcoming programs but looking at TV Guide  that all programs on TVNZ post Olympics are not  listed as HD 5.1  as they are on CH3..  So who knows when regular HD will happen on TVNZ..

On the FreeviewHD preview channel I saw Criminal Minds, Ugly Betty, Pushing Up Daisies (I think) and all were HD but also stereo :-(

Hope that they go both HD and 5.1 sound and get rid of that AAC-HE audio codec as TV3 has done now.

They won't get rid of AAC - that will always remain as the stereo option for those who don't have amps to do 5.1

Well do what TV3 appear to be doing now - send down both AAC and DD, even though there is no 5.1 track. That's what I seem to be experiencing on the TV3 (AC3) channel

That is their plan. AAC will always be the default stereo audio however. They could never transmit just in AC3 because when 5.1 audio was transmitted the box would need to mix this back to stereo.

Which every dvd player ever made is able to do, so its not new technology to do it. It seems that the specs call for that horrid he-aac codec so thats what they must do, just like a dvd is supposed to always have a ac3 soundtrack on it, even if there are better ones as well.
