lchiu7 - as the link says, this is unstable software, a SVN snapshot. Bugs are expected as it describes.
The more people who can test it and find bugs, the faster we can get these issues fixed.

I think he posted it because NZ and Norway are the only countries who can really test it properly, and because everyone desperately wanted a solution to transcode these huge files.

Transcoding involves two steps

1, transcode the video to something smaller but not much PQ difference - I can do that pretty successfully with x264 and/or megui
2. demux the audio from the signal and either mux it back (if it's DD already so only DV3) or possibly convert to some other format if it's AAC [I convert to DD 2.0]
3. Mux them back

I can do that okay with megui or x264 and txmuxer and tsremux - the problem I have experienced is occasionally the .ts files I have captured, mostly from TV3, seems to be broken dropped data in the audio. So when I try to mux the audio back extracted from the original file, tsmuxer complains about data missing and drops frames. This causes loss of sync on the audio. Interestingly for TV1/TV2 I can demux the audio and video, compress the video, convert the audio to wav, convert to AC3 and mux it back with no loss in sync.

The TV3 native files play fine so I have just given up - keep them in their original size.

Ah i see what you mean, sorry. Sure you don't have signal issues or something causing the drops in audio?
I suppose hard drives are pretty damn cheap these days anyway.

Thanks to the help of eXDee I've just committed a fix to the broken threaded deinterlacer for Windows.
The root cause of the issue was that cygwin that Handbrake gets its pthreads from, was implementing the default mutux mode as recursive rather than normal like the rest of the OS world.
There will hopefully be another snapshot this coming weekend, eXDee, if you don't mind I'll bug a new binary at you soon for some testing prior to that snapshot.

Don't think so. I have an external UHF antenna that pulls in a strong signal from Kaukau. When I look for stations using gbpvr the signal strength is strong. Anyway as you say HD are cheap these days plus a 45 minute show (ads removed) fits onto a DVD so that is a good way to store them.

Interestingly I don't encounter the same problems with the AAC audio on TV1/TV2. I have a Popcorn which can't play those so I have to convert the audio. It's a fiddly but not CPU intensive process involving

1. demux the audio
2, play it in Winamp to get a wav file
3. encode as AC-3 using besweet
4, mux back with the video using Tsmuxer

The resultant file plays fine with audio and video in sync - strange...

It's there - look under your apps menu in with the media apps - I forget what they are called right now.

Hi,
Could you clarify what you mean by "Anything earlier seems to die"? Earlier releases of HB, or earlier releases of Mediaportal?
I'm surprised if the version of Mediaportal makes any difference since in theory it simply dumps the OTA stream into a file. Earlier versions of HB were broken for deinterlacing on Windows (silly cygwin pthread implementation).
