I assume the +1 isn't HD.
And I have a better idea, Hey Mediaworks do us all a favour and lease the transmitter space to Prime (you know, a reciprocal agreement for Sky carrying TV3 and C4).

There is already more than enough space available for Prime. I'm sure Kordia would be happy to lease them the capacity currently used by the freeview|HD test promo channel.

CYaBro: Or instead of an extra channel why not use the extra bandwidth to make the existing TV3 channel HD so those of us who are unable to get the UHF HD version can at least get something in HD??
Or would the MPEG4 HD bandwidth be more than the two MPEG2 SD channels?

Sounds like you mean satellite, which there are no plans to go HD on since no one would be able to receive it except HTPC owners and those who have imported HD receivers, which is a tiny tiny minority.

Regarding V8's - i imagine they would suspend the +1 coverage when there's an event like this on and instead run a constant feed. At least that would be the smart thing to do.

Is this new +1 channel only going to be on DVB-T?

I don't know, but thats not my point - what i'm trying to say is you couldnt use the bandwidth that the 2nd channel would take to make the existing TV3 channel HD, especially if it's mpeg4. The freeview satellite receivers will only do SD mpeg2 i'm pretty sure, so as i said only a HTPC owner would be able to receive it then, making it useless for existing satellite viewers.

I would have rather seen C4 go HD then this waste of space.

I don't think I could possibly be any more underwhelmed to be honest.  Undecided

The only upside I can think of is I have a second chance if I forget to record something first time around.

But only if you remember within an hour. Undecided

Also think this is a waste of space.

I have to agree with the majority of people on this one. What were they thinking, just because it worked well in the UK dosnt mean it will work well here. Mediaworks dropped the ball on this one, i was expecting new content, or even possibly old content aka tvnz7, instead we get a time shifted channel by all of an hour i might add, jeez if your going to time shift it, do it by two, that might be somewhat useful.

YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING. Sky doing something for the benefit of Joe Public! They will integrate Prime into Freeview only when it suits them. Probably about 5 seconds after they believe they can't get any more subscribers from having Prime on Sky as the only digital source.

I also think you will find that there has been a turn-around by Mediaworks for reasons known only to themselves. Earlier in the year, NZ PCWorld stated in an article about Freeview that TV3 were going to launch another channel & full, uninterrupted coverage of Bathurst was going to be its premier. Thanks for nothing, TV3. Who's your new programme director: Sky's old one Tongue out
