Thought I'd complain about it not being available for all Android TV devices

Why just Android devices? The streams should be published and available to any NZ IP address.

Currently, we have a mix of official apps and unofficial software to support other platforms. Limiting access to apps doesn't achieve anything when the content is already available via DVB for anyone to access.

Well that was the particular use case I had in mind for for several wider family members who are not particularly technically minded, but would benefit from one goto app. Wasn't going to tell them I already had "other options".

The streams themselves aren't locked to the offical app. If you know where to look there are M3U files of the URLs.

Confused... is this the successor to the one they've just closed? https://freeviewnz.tv/faq-library/od-change-2022/pre-release-faqs/

Different, they have closed their on demand streaming feature, so they just offer live streaming now.

And it's called a Freeview On Demand account, even though FOD is gone now...

*sigh* if only they would put a version out for Apple TV, then I could ditch the antenna and all its problems for good

No real need as playlist and app to play, e.g., iPlayTV, is readily available.

For those who are happy to sideload.

MattH has just released a cracked version that will allow installing on any android tv device. You still need to sign in with freeview on demand account.

But it's a great first step to more device support.

Just updated Freeview Streaming on my 2yo LG LCD/LED TV.

No +1 channels.

My first ever AM radio network connection was with a 1MHz AM crystal(OA91) radio receiver.

Just use wireshark to get the raw streaming URL's, then you can use VLC to stream it.  I've done that with a few of the radio stations, and just have the m3u streaming files which I open with VLC - then I don't have to bother with all the rubbish thrown at me in the iHeart app.

I'm looking at getting Apple TV.
Do you use MattH m3u? What's the interface like for iPlayTV compared to other IPTV players.

freitasm: I asked Freeview about Chromecast, Fire TV and other devices - this is their reply:
We are also very much focused on making the app available on Freeview-approved devices, which do not include Fire TV or Chromecast.

That's very clear. Chromecast and FireTV are not Freeview-approved devices. I assume Freeview-approved is a brand partnership with compensation paid to Freeview.

I do not believe you have to pay them to use the Freeview trademarking - rather you have to follow their rules for how your devices work, including not being able to quickly skip over the ads.  The Freeview members get their money from forcing you to watch the ads.  Fortunately, there are non Freeview branded devices and software out there that do allow you to skip the ads easily, such as MythTV, NextPVR and many others.
