The idea that there was any rationale at all for "translating" it to an American milieu was stupid and insulting.
I hope our friends in the US will just enjoy the original version.

I think it was on BBC America so hardly mainstream which means very few Americans would have seen it.

They had two attempts at a pilot. The first was shot in LA and featured Colm Meaney as the Gene Hunt character. Apparently the NBC execs hated it so it was redone and set in NY which is probably better.

The show did have some nice touches like the first time Sam see the twin towers - now that was quite touching dramatically.

I think CSI NY is much better this current season in the US. But agree with all the comments about how bad US remakes of other country shows are <shudder>.

having seen both pilots the first one was more talking and was a lot slower pace, more british than american but the one set in NY had a lot more action but both had nothing on the original

Common sense is not as common as you think.

I would love to know why TV3 has dropped Burn Notice, I Hope its not because of "bad" ratings

I think it is more a timing thing, the writers strike really stuffed up world wide tv schedules.

Take Heroes for example, it seemed to stop in the US at Season 03 Episode 13 or 14, then a few weeks later is started again and there seems to be issues over the season number and episode now. People can't seem to agree.

Another series with issues is Smallville, also had writers or producers leave half way through season 08, but it starts and stops every couple of episodes and takes a two week break when airing in the US now.

House also stopped, and TV3 dropped it until earlier this year then ran the end of season 04 straight into season 05 or whatever season they are up to now I can't keep track.

Most major series last year stopped short of the alloted episodes and they now seem to be making up or changing schedules to get back into sync with audiences expecting regular season times and series length.

I actually like Life on Mars. I don't think it should extende beyond one season though - that's enough to tell the story and close the plot.

I read its last episode in the U.S. is coming this 1st April.

Most US series are planned to last more than one season unless they are a miniseries or something. Otherwise it doesn't make a lot of sense to start the show.

As for Life On Mars, clearly US ratings killed it but at least the network had the decency to let it run the season and provide some sort of resolution. What that will be who knows - possibly they will take a lead from the UK show or do something quite different.

Burn Notice is a cool show, would like to see the rest of the season aired soon too. The us is already filing season 3 of the show. Hope they air that here sometime.
